Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am really looking for simple, and something not exclusive to any particular curriculum.

I buy a 3 ring binder with those clear plastic covers so you can slip a label down under the plastic on both the spine and the front cover. I use notebook paper and date each page - then list each subject we are planning that year for that child that day and any of my instructions and short, easy to read assignment from wherever I garnished it (my own creation, or from some plan/plans I'm weaving together) and a reference to page numbers of any summary or other more lengthy things I want them to read in a specific plan or to specific maps, etc.

Obviously, if I am following a plan exactly, then I wouldn't bother to do this - but I have yet to follow a plan exactly. Oh and for the youngest child whom I work with everyday, I just use the CHC plans collected in the 3 ring binder and write in the date on the week and then specifically date anything we did on a different date - and cross out and rewrite our substitutions. I write all over these plans and do not focus on neatness unless it is something my children have to read.

I even can color code by child if I wish since those plastic overlay type is clear and I've found the notebooks in blue, purple, pink, green and yellow. If things are hairy, it is easy to simply redate something - even an individual item rather than copy them over - noting in the new day to see (date). In this case, we would simply date the item when it was completed.

I have lots of white space so that it is easy to either scratch out the date and rewrite a different date - or scratch something from the plan or shift it to a different date as we move along. I could even simmply circle the incomplete item, leave the plan with the child a tad longer and note on the new day to refer to the plan from (date). At the end of the year, we often flip through and see all that we have accomplished and then decide what really must be completed to wrap up the year. This is a great activity when spring fever hits cause my children suddenly realize how much was done, how little is really left to do and they get re-energized. I simply list these priority items during the last wrap up weak.

I set this all up over the summer but during the school year it is really easy - I pull out the first 5 pages, week 1, for my child (I can photocopy if it is a particularly disorganized child) and put them inside the front pocket of their notebook. They check off what they do on a given day, I review the work and put a check in pen and file it. AT that time we adjust anything for the next week and hand the next weeks stuff to the child. I have full proof of "attendance" which is required in my state to make it simple to fill out the attendance record. At the end of the year, I can remove the pages, file them in a manilla envelop with name and date of child in case I ever face a legal challenge. Then I reuse the notebook.

This isn't a store bought, put together planner. Those just have never worked for me. This system has made life in my house so much simpler for both my children and me. It is so flexible, cause it is really easy to even remove pages.
