For those of you who have used any of the Winter Promise curricula, what did you think of it? For those of you who are pondering it, which ones are you interested in?

I'm using the animals and their worlds and my 6, turning 7 yr old is enjoying it.

Last year I really pondered buying the American history "program" from Winterpromise. But then I ended up just buying New World Explorers and the Colonial Life cd-roms directly from Homeschool in the Woods. I figured, with all the resources here at 4real and being able to create my own studies depending on what was working and not, that this gave me the flexibility but still gave me some great information/activities quickly to hand.
The Homeschool in the Woods website shows that they have added American Revolution and 19th Century cd-roms to their "set".
Just a thought if you were looking at American History.

We switched to WP AS1 this year for ds10 (after trying out SL's Core 3 again.) We are loving it. The first time I tried WP, I thought it was kinda choppy in its presentation of Animal Worlds (this was many years ago) but I did like Quest for the Ancients even then, and oldest dd, who was the one using it, liked it too.
I got an older AS1 guide, and I am SO happy I did. We are really loving it! I like it better than their newer program that uses a new spine that I am not real fond of.
When we are done, I do plan on continuing to use them - Sea & Sky for ds, and Hideaways in History for ds6. I probably could group them together, but I don't mind doing two programs. I know I like Quest for the Ancients, and so I plan on being with WP for while, it seems.
I am glad I gave them another try.

I am enjoying American Crossing with my dc (oldest 12 youngest 8). I am thinking about using Quest for the Middle Ages next year. I am finding that their prices, although high, are very worth it in the end. We are having such fun with all of the literature and spine books thus far. I have also used SL and feel WP's book selection to be more suited to my taste and my dc learning style. I love the HSITW cd packs with many activities. These crafts have kept our topics fun and memorible.
I am not going to use the language arts curriculum again next year as I have this year. I feel that it is too workbookish although I did like Easy Grammar. The reading books are great so I will order those again for next year.
There are some books that are published by WP that I feel glad to have. Drawing your World teaches your child to learn to draw each continent, country , ocean, and major land form. It has been a blessing for geograpy this year. I am also enjoying the Early American Painters Picture Studies. We study different paintings and discuss artistic elements, feelings,and its historical significance. We also try our hand at copying the works of art.
I am looking forward to the new catalog coming out next month. I don't think there will be too many changes and their website is quite thorough. my only complaint is that my books did not arrive in one big package as when I ordered SL. It took a long time to recieve all of my reading books and I really had to keep up with them to make sure I had everyting. If you choose WP my advice is order early and expect delays. It was worth the wait to me.

Oh, I guess I should add...I only purchase the 'exclusives' from WP. I get all the other books at Amazon (so many are on the 3 for 4 lists!) or overstock or whatnot....
I do not use their LA program, but do plan to use the readers.

I don't plan doing WP next year because we're goign to do story fo the world vol 1, but I'd be interested in WP middle ages when we get to that in story fo the world vol 2.
sea sna dsky does look fun and interesting too.

I am so excited that you posted this. Dh and I have been in prayer over what to do w/ our oldest next year. The sea and sky seems like an answer to our prayers. I had never heard of this company before, so if you hadn't posted I wouldn't have found it. Thanks!

We are using Sea & Sky this year. We really like it! Although I bought it last spring, we really just started it in Jan. We are doing the sea part this spring and the sky part next fall.
I am interested in their Quest for the Middle Ages, or Children Around the World.
There are a few resources I don't use, but for the most part we really like it! This year I am not using their LA resources, other than their readers.

I am using American Crossing with my fifth grader. We are mostly enjoying it. There is a thread on the history forum about American Crossing that I started when we were first looking into it.
I do like the Homeschool in the Woods materials, and so far the books have been mostly hits. The Language Arts has been nice, because we spent the first part of the year really doing lots of creative writing and Bravewriter courses, and now we're doing more grammar and the factual paragraph writing. Somehow it's a nice break and it's been good having it all laid out for me.
I find the amount of paper they send to be overwhelming, and I still can't figure out what to do with the timeline; there are additional timelines included with the American Crossing adn doing two seems like overkill.
We quickly ditched the devotional materials and the picture study. That seemed too contrived and to be honest a bit boring.
I wish their supplemental materials list was available on the website, as there are some books and, in particular, DVDs that seem quite important, but I have a delay in shipping things overseas so it's a pain.
We skip a lot of the crafts but they are there for us if we want them. I know some kids are more craft oriented than others. I like it that craft kits are available to purchase as I can't get hold of many "common household items" where I live.
So all I'd say we're pleased. If you are used to pulling together unit studies, you may find it frustrating that it is not as cohesive as they make out. For example this week we are reading books about a Longhouse Village, and a voyage on the Mayflower, while studying pirates. I have to just let it go...... :o)
