Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was tossing around the idea of using the history for these two programs for 2 children, over 2 years. The first is at grade level but the other will be 7 and then 8 over those two years. She is sharp, and I wouldn't expect her to do the summaries or tests that MODG suggests, but if you've done these before, do you think the reading is interesting enough to hold the attention of a 7 and then 8 year old?

We use MODG. I think you'd for sure be fine with the 4th grade selections. Fifth grade might bring some issues..are you planning to do these as read alouds? That will help, but even so you might have issues with just a couple of them. MODG purposely puts in a range of reading materials over the year, some meant to be easier reads and some meant to challenge the child, so a couple of them are more difficult, I'm thinking specifically of Johnny Tremain. But she'll be a year older then too, so maybe she'd be ok! :)

We've switched some of the reading to read alouds or audio which might be good for you o consider. My very good 8 year old reader would be challenged by some of the books the 9 year olds (4th graders) are reading.

I will say that I have had a hard time finding a few of the books for them, alhtough I can't remember off the top of my head if they are those in the syllabus or those in the larger reading list in Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum.

Well, my thought was to do all the reading aloud, and audiobook is a great idea that would help as well. I confess my motivations this time around are not for the perfect program. I just want something I don't have to schedule out (don't have 2 hands often enough right now) and I don't want to deal with anti Catholic issues that require me to preread everything (because I don't often have 2 extra sets of eyes to do the reading right now). The history program I used with my first two is good but is really more history than I need to do at this age.
