Last year I bought a set of Mr. Sketch Scented Markers. They have been used nearly every day since and are still well loved and going strong.
What is your best loved or "gotta have" school supply for the new year?

This was our "find" last year -- Ticonderoga tri-write pencils pencils that are 3-sided and make for much easier gripping. Like the Lyra colored pencils (which are DEFINITELY worth the price), they are so easy to hold ... much better writing when the kids use these!

For last year:
for ds, it was finding crayons that he could tolerate with his sensory issues. Crayon Rocks were a hit.
for dd, the most loved school supply was the number Gnomes.
Gotta have for next year? not sure yet....I am sure people will start mentioning all sorts of things here shortly that I will just *need*! (Anyone else feel like every time they log on their book wishlist grows just a little longer?)

Montessori golden beads were our hands-down best investment. That and Netflix for history and travel videos.

My printer--it makes 2 cent copies!
Not really a "supply", but I took some of my reproducible books to a print shop and had them spiral bound for easier copying. If a book is expensive (20 dollars plus), and if at some point I can use it for all five kids, it's worth the trouble.
This year we bought Prismacolor markers--love 'em!

It's not actually something I bought, but what I learnt - to refill my own printer cartridges. I can print 100 pages for $2 at the most, even cheaper if I buy the ink when it's marked down. I also discovered I can buy ANY brand printer refill ink and it works exactly the same.
In 9 years of homeschooling I have not found a single thing that tops this in our home.

Not to change the topic, but would you share how to do this?

Paula, it all depends on what brand of printer you have, as cartridges vary, but for my first time I bought a refill kit for my particular printer (Lexmark) from ebay. It had the instructions, tools and ink for me to refill on my own. It was surprisingly simple!
I have been able to re-use the same cartridge for up to 10 times before it needs to be thrown away, then I buy another that is reused over and over. I've been doing this for about 5 years now.
It's very cheap to buy your ink in bulk, so you save a lot more that way, and you can use any ink - for example I have used HP and Canon inks in my Lexmark and they are identical. Often supermarkets have had refill kits for different brands marked down to $2 so I buy 10 or so kits, which gives me 60 refills.
The one thing I needed to buy, though, were plastic gloves. I can be messy.

How did I miss this??? This is hands down my favorite thing about the new school year! Bouquets of shiny new pencils, sweet smelling graph paper, joyfully multicolored pens, notebooks...I could go on...
Hmmm....my favorite thing from last year?
Book Pockets for organizing my 3 part cards.
