My dilemma is: I have a new acquaintance who is very seriously considering home education and I need some quick resource to give her.
What books or websites would you recommend most for her to get more information and a good head start?
I don't know her religious affiliation but her kids are 13 and 10. She is VERY unhappy with public school and is a bit of a rebel from what I have learned so far, lol. She has been discussing home education with the children but hasn't really known where to get info.
I gave her the link for HSLDA so she could get legal info but I drew a complete blank as far as what other websites are out there for people just getting started. I have been schooling so long, I don't normally look for that stuff.
Thank you for your help and insight!!
Blessings,
Krisann

do you have a statewide organization that would have info?
In both AZ & NV (the only states I am familiar with) there are statewide org. that have all the basic info (Laws, Contacts, etc) for the state.
Also:
This site might help?
or maybe this one?

I think a book that's extremely helpful is Homeschooling For Dummies
There is also The Complete Idiot's Guide to Homeschooling
Though I don't love the titles, they are very informative books. And she may be able to find them in her library. Also, if you don't know her religious affiliation, these are great for information in how to homeschool, but don't have the religious or christian bent that many how to homeschool books do.
Here are some good Beginning Homeschooling websites that may help as well:
ELO's Beginning Homeschooling Page
Homeschool dot com's beginning hsing site
Beginning Homeschooling at About dot com
Many of these sites also have sections for homeschooling in high school, something she should really read too while making the decision.
This is a great one for Planning for Beginners, once the decision is made:
Planning Homeschool for Beginners
Hope these help!!!

Thank you! I sent an email with those links. Hopefully that will help her get started.
If anyone else has some good resources, keep 'em comin'.
She is here in KS (I'm still visiting with my new grandbaby). I gave her some local support resources too so that should be a big help.
Blessings,
Krisann

Hands down, the best book for someone considering homeschooling is So You're Thinking About Homeschooling by Lisa Whelchel. Hope that helps!

Thank you for the resource and thank you for the compliment on the avatar.
I wish I could remember where I got it, lol. I think it was in one of those really big graphics packs you can get at Best Buy or other similar places. I actually wanted to do something else with it, but couldn't find the original.
Blessings,
Krisann
