I did Sonlight Core B with my daughter this year. I want to keep using their booklists but I'd like to follow more of a CM track so I'm thinking of going with Mater Am. The problem is, I look at that course work and I think to myself, "Is that enough?" Has anyone done just what they lay out or do you feel the need to add more to the curriculum? I pray I can just get the peace of mind that comes with knowing that what you have planned is enough.

I went back and looked at their curriculum and it seems like there's enough curriculum but I'm concerned that there's no instructions on how to teach using the books they listed. For instance, am I supposed to just read the recommended books or am I supposed to be teaching vocabulary, grammar and comprehension as we read the books?

Have you joined the teacher training forum?
I've found the other ladies to be very helpful if you have a question. I would recommend reading as much as you can about the CM method, especially narration and living books which are at the heart of the method.
I use bits of MA and we love it. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Just my two cents on how we use MA:
- I found it to be TOO much but I had a busy year. We dropped History and Geography and I never even planned for a foreign language!!
- we just read the books and narrate for 1st grade (if there's a word he doesn't know, he asks). Narration takes care of comprehension in my mind.

Yes, what Maryan said! :) Narration and dictation takes care of the comprehension. Older kids write their own narrations, which covers grammer, writing, and spelling when I go back through it with them. Journaling, notebooking, sketching - great ways to cover the reading material. I used MA for 2 years, and will be going back to it next year with one particular child that THRIVED with it. (don't ask why we changed things...)

We use MA and love it! We do mix and match from different levels and I have found that many of their recommended books are the ones the kids love to use...so that is a bonus...it interests more than one of them at a time ..independent thinkers that they are...
and oh yea,...what Lisa said
God love you!

We used MA this year, loved it, but certainly didn't do all of it.....it was too much here too. Along with the teacher training forum, I use Ambleside Online's website for specifics about CM. They have a lot of great stuff on the nuts and bolts of implementing CM.
