Came across this site mentioned on the CHCChat pages -- Mercy Academy -- seems she's tkane the course of study that was required Cahtolic school and built a curriculum that usable today. What's neat is that it's similar to CM -- not philosophically but the actual courses, etc.
I thought it was a great breakdown of what they used to require.
Enjoy.

I just went to that web site and and find it quite interesting. Has anyone used it or heard anything about it bad or good?

I have heard good things about it on another homeschooling forum I was on in the past, but don't know much specific information.
Sorry I'm not more helpful!

I am in charge of our homeschooling group's curriculum night each year. Last year a member brought her Mercy Academy learning style test (I think it was only $20) which her ds and dd took in Feb. It was very comprehensive and professional.
Many members than had their own children take the test for help in determining learning styles, strengths and weaknesses. I know one woman was very impressed with the test so they signed up for Mercy Academy this year.

I gave the Learning Style tests to Garrett,Reilly and Mary over Christmas break.
We were very happy with the results, it even included curriculum suggestions based on their learning profile. We've made some changes to our materials based on the results and are planning on implementing more next year. I've thought about enrolling next year but haven't decided yet.
One thing is certain- all three do not learn well from workbooks so Seton is out of the running. I've bounced back and forth with Seton going from fully enrolled to using their books, to just enrolling in a couple courses.
Saxon is not a match for any of them so we are back at Singapore Math which they all loved, and I gave up so that we'd have counselors to call with any questions.
I'm trying to implement a Latin based education- but I'm not sure if we'll succeed based on the kids test results.
I'd say the test results are worth the $20, I've paid more for CAT testing for them and it didn't give me any insight into how they really learn.

This test sounds interesting! Dh is wanting a test of some sort this year (it has been years since dd was tested) and I am in the midst of trying to decide what test to buy. Thanks for adding another option to my table!

The best parts are that the test is online and you get the results immediately. The CAT test took me a week to give the boys and another 6 weeks to wait for the results.

Sigh...I contacted Mercy Academy last week and they aren't accepting families next year. They don't have enough consultants for the budget. But that doesn't mean the learning styles tests won't be available. I'm in the middle of a dialogue with Andrea Chen right now and I'll see what the plans will be for the coming year. Sure does sound good doesn't it?

Elizabeth,
I guess that narrows down my choices...
Let us know if you find out anymore.

I had my boys take the Learning Style Assessment before Christmas; it really was a fantastic insight into them individually and together. On almost all points, they are different learners. I laughed because of all of the well-laid plans to "teach" them together. It can be very helpful. Here is the link.
