Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Barbara pointed me to Singapore Math's vocabulary books. This got me looking around their website, http://www.singaporemath.com/Homeschool_s/60.htm.

Now, I don't need more to do, or need to spend any more money. But, we are definitely in a workbook season of life. So, I was wondering if anyone is using/ has used any of Singapore's other workbooks besides math. They have science, grammar, vocabulary.

Thanks!

Molly, after recommending that to you, I got to looking around the site again. It won't be long before I need to put in my next order. DD(5) just finished EarlyBird 2A today, and thankfully I already have EarlyBird 2B waiting in the wings.

In my last order, I also purchased the Earlybird Start-Up Science. At the time I think they were slightly cheaper than they are now for the four workbooks. They're recommended for first or second grade, because of reading at writing. However, my five-year- old can easily handle the content, and I don't allow writing in this set anyway. Each lesson is really only about a page long, so sometimes I expand on the basic lesson with an extra activity. In the first workbook, we got a lot of use out of our Little People zoo animals as we divided them into mammals, fish, reptiles, etc.

I wasn't really planning to have any formal science yet, but I wanted something to have as an alternative to math each day to basically slow us down in math. I really don't want to start Primary Math 1A until next fall when my daughter will be closer to six, and she really breezed through the first set of kindergarten math books. Even with the tougher stuff in the second set, I'm going to have to buy Power Math K to buy us some more time.

I am looking at ordering the Kindergarten Art 1A, because my daughter loves art projects and I don't. So it looks like it combines a little bit of art form and theory with some simple projects that might please her and not be overwhelming for me. I'll be interested to hear if anyone else has used any other Singapore materials, too.

Your 5 yr old sounds like my 6 yr old. I just can't hold her back and she flies through every book, both workbooks and chapter books, she gets in her hands. Her comprehension is amazing. She is also very good at math.

I certainly want to encourage her, and definitely don't want to give her "twaddle" or busy work that would demoralize her. But she does love workbooks, I think it is that sense of accomplishment when she finishes one.

Thanks for your input.

Anyone else?

I've used the Grammar Skills (now Grammar Practice) workbooks and liked them. It only took maybe 10 minutes a day to do a couple of pages. They do use British English though, which obviously is good for us but may not be for you

Forgive my ignorance , but is there a significant difference when it comes to grammar?
