My husband always asks what I want for Christmas and inevitably I always have some book in mind! I have read A Charlotte Mason Companion by Andreola (from the library) and loved it. I have not read For the Children's Sake by Macaulay. Are they very similar? Would it be good to have both? Can someone compare or contrast them briefly or point me to another thread that does? Thank you.

Hi Lisa,
No, I didn't think they were similar. Though they both talk about Charlotte Mason. Macaulay talks about how she struggled to educate her children before finding Mason, then what happened afterwards and how it all turned out. She doesn't go into the lists of what to do for each subject that Andreola does, but she does tell us how to implement Mason at home just not in the detail that Andreola does. I like Andreola better. I bet you would enjoy A Pocketful of Pinecones by Andreola it's a fictional book about living the CM lifestyle. The main character is a Mom who is homeschooling. The book shares how she does that and is also the story of this Mom's life for a year or two. It's a very good read, unforgettable. Macaulay is too of course.

I read the Macaulay book, but I really enjoyed the Andreola book, so much that I am constantly pulling it out for reference. That and Elizabeth's book...

I read both. For the Children's sake was good and helpful, but not one that I'd read over and over, or refer to often, like Andreola's book. I purchased Andreola's book and read it often....little snippets at a time...good for inspiration, etc. That and Elizabeth's book are my favs too.

Well Susan Shaeffer Macaulay took me three reads before I got it. I love Karen Andreola (although I don't read it when I am low in energy ) I think Andreola is an excellent reference to have on your shelve.

I have to agree with the above reviews. Although I enjoyed both. I have used Karen Andreola's book more often in the beginning of our homeschool journey. It is nice to have a wealth of books on hand for those times when you seem to be lost or in a rut. I am constantly reading or rereading books to keep my motivation going. Hope this helps Lisa.

Hi Ladies,
There seems to be a consensus. Having read the Andreola book from the library I often wished I had it back to refer to, so I will ask for that one and Elizabeth's book.
Not to extend this thread any longer, but didn't Elizabeth used to have a website connected to this forum with essays from her conference talks, book lists, etc.? I can't seem to find that anymore and I just get redirected here. If all that information is in her book then I will be happy.
Thank you all for your advice. It's so nice to get these questions answered!
