Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have been reading From Homeschool to College and Work by Alison McKee and she mentions that her children keep a brief record/journal of their learning experiences in a little notebook and then they use that as a basis for preparing a college or work application.

How do you do record-keeping as unschoolers? I'd love to know, the more specific the better....

Willa,

I don't think I am much help here, as we haven't needed to keep detailed records or logs in the areas I inwhich I have lived, here in Australia. Detailed transcripts weren't required for my boys for university

Hopefully, someone else from the US will jump in.

But here is my two cents.

We have kept portfolios - simple files or scrapbooks of work.

I have kept a homeschool log or journal - in a variety of formats, brief or narrative.

My older boys, from the age of fifteen nr so, kept brief homeschool diaries for themselves - I purchased the usual student diaries and each night they wrote down what they did that day.

I might try the above idea with the current teens!

Hi Leonie,
Thanks! It's neat you don't have to keep records for university there in AU. But also, I am thinking that if I kept a record it might give me some clues as to where his interests might be taking him, so I can help him (mostly Brendan here).   I seem to think better when I am writing things out

I thought your blog was a nice way to keep some records.... I was just trying to find the thread you posted it on, but no luck

Great blog Leonie, thanks so much for sharing it. I look forward to looking in now and again. My ds 6.5 would love to learn more about skateboarding, I think maybe I'll show him the site. Do you have anyone around his age that he could correspond with??? You can PM me if you want.
