Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

you know math on monday, faithon friday....

do you do a weeks worth of work on those days or just make that subject the focus, while still doing a bit of other subjects too?

for example I spread language arts out over the week because they would grumble loudly over having to read, write, edit, revise, and final copy all in one day!

but I can see the allure of a topic days too because we'd have ALL day to focus on that rather than scatterring the brain power.

Curious how it is actually "done"....

Hello! I have just started this withh dd, but cannot be much help to you, as she is only 4! So all our activities are games, really. I really like this way of doing things...it feels more related, natural & less stressful. We do however go off on little 'rabbit trails' that incorporate other 'subjects' as we are 'working' for example, we read 'thumbelina' the other day, which lead us to look into Swallows...how they feed, drink nest etc.

We've just done this beginning this week as well. My dc are 10 and 7. Even though we may be having history Thursday, they will still be doing narrations (oral or written) and copywork for that particular topic. Since we are in the beginning stages of this, I know I may end up changing it up a bit. For example, I expressed a little concern over math just one day a week, and my dd suggested that I give her math homework to be completed each day! Wow---she never would've suggested that before!

I have decided, also, that there will be days when they have to finish up an assignment from the previous day. Curious to see how this works for others also.

Martha
We aren't yet doing one topic a day, (because I don't know if I'm disciplined enough) but we have condensed out seatwork, maths 2x/wk and LA 3x/wk. So for maths we are doing a week's worth on those two days. With LA I am expecting a little longer length in their dictation, copywork not really as the emphasis is still on quality not quantity. Story writing well, I need help. Oh and I still try to get my emerging readers read daily.

Martha--The post I posted on my blog shows how we focus our weeks on a single subject a day. My little ones just do those activities mentioned, but with my 4th grader, I try to do some drill in the other subject areas--math, spelling, etc...On my best days, I relate it to the topic of the day, on good days, it comes from our books or computer, on many days, we only do some, and some days we only do the focus subject. We do take the whole week to go through the writing process, and change subjects every week. One week he writes about a history topic, one week faith, etc...I think this approach will work through the middle school years and then in junior high I think we will have to add more of the other subjects in each day with the focus subject being the main part. Hope this makes sense.
