Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm having trouble with this today! One of the first things a wise hs mom told me is "Don't compare!". I usually follow that bit of wisdom, but I'm really struggling with it today.

I live in a district that is high pressure and prides themselves on producing top performing students. I spoke with a neighbor whose kids go to the local ps today. Listening to her talk about what her 5th grade brings home for homework (read 6 chapters of a book, and summarize it typewritten to turn in the next day, an hours worth of math homework, etc.)has me a bit freaked out. Also, I happened to see a sign the same neighbor's 2nd grader made (our kids were all playing together this afternoon) and I'm amazed at this child's spelling and ability compared to my 2nd gr. level ds. I know I shouldn't compare, but these things start to overwhelm me. I tell myself that both my dc are happy, polite children but I have this fear that they'll someday be 16 yrs old and not know what they "need" to know. I think part of my worry is that my dh would like to eventually put them in school (around 10th, 11th grade). Have any of you that have hs and then done ps later on found that your children were on level or behind? One thing I do know is that many of the children around here are leading extremely busy, stressful lives compared to what I would want for my dc.

Our typical day consists of starting with a saint story, prayer followed by a couple of MUS pages. We then may do copywork and then work on our unit study a bit. We're usually done with workbook type stuff or table work by noon and the rest of the day is spent reading or doing crafts, cooking, etc.

Any words of wisdom? I've been really praying lately that I can stay in the moment and not project too far ahead. I notice that when I start to have these feelings, I end up coming down hard on my own dc. I know that's not fair, and that's not the kind of mother I want to be.    Maybe I should have posted this under prayer requests!

I think the title of your post says it all.
You know that what you are doing is good and right. Instead of feeling like your children are lacking, I would feel sorry for those poor overworked, stressed out children who do not have the benefit of a stay at home mom, gentle educational guidance, and the time and freedom to be children instead of small adults.
