Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I put out a bag of shrimp shells on the front porch to take to the trash. Within an hour a raccoon was making a mess
Of course, the kids thought it was great to watch
This lead to talking about what raccoons eat and setting "traps" for the raccoon (ongoing problem in our city area). They had watched Swiss Family Robinson last week and suddenly the wheels were turning in their head.

I said "wait, you haven't done your studies yet!"

The phone rang at that moment and I got sidetracked.

Next thing I know we have pits, snares, a pulley, and various traps set in the yard.

I asked my son if he did any "school work" which he replied he had read David and Goliath before he went out.
I asked him to narrate back to me which he did surprisingly well and this lead to "battle" discussions.
This lead to building a castle in our dirt pile that was supposed to be a garden this summer

The 2 yr old has been pouring rainwater in and out of cups and watching them make little streams on the patio which he finds facinating. This has gone on for more than 30 min now!

I made lunch and we ate it outside and the kids watched birds at the bird feeders and talked about what kinds they were and if they would eat the food we were eating. They have learned alot about birds in the last few months and I love hearing the kids name them-except the still call the Oriole a "jelly eater"

I was about to call them in to do their "studies" when I realized they had learned plenty today and were still learning, I picked out a few of the Burgess animal stories to read aloud a little later.

Off to watch more "wheels turning" as the learn!

How about at your house?

Wonderful day! Absolutely perfect!Don't you just love it when the days just flow and fill themselves effortlessly!?!
School is out for the summer here, but yesterday we spent some time down at the docks looking at the different kinds of boats and all of the gear they use. Then we saw some boats that had not been taken out in a long while because they had the most amazing things growing on them...several kinds of anemones, barnacles, mussels, kelp and other seaweeds...really fascinating stuff!Of course we HAD to touch!LOL!
Then we took a look at the sea gulls and tried to decide what kind they were, glaucous gulls, glaucous-winged gulls, or herring gulls? Just exactly which ones had the white wing tips and which have grey tips with white specks and which have black tips??? And the juveniles, are they first, second, or third year?
And what type of sea star is that gull trying to swallow whole? Will he make it? Nope!He had to cough it up and try again! Gross, but fascinating!
Then we spotted a Steller sea lion and watched him for a bit. Man was it huge!!! Wish we could have gotten a closer view. Today we will try to scope out a better vantage point...
All this while waiting at the docks for oldest ds to talk to a captain about a job on a seine boat.
I am telling you, this is the life!
