I'm contemplating my ever present curriculum junkie wishlist and got to thinking...
What do you ladies consider to be the the top 10 must have best materials in a Catholic homeschooling home? Not including the obvious bible, catechism and various charlotte mason books!

Martha we love Anna Botsford Comstock's Handbook of Nature Study, it see's ALOT of action here!! Also the ever famous Favorite Poems Old and New by Helen Ferris.
For Catholic material, the CHC Spellers are pretty hard to beat, if you like workbooks
Have fun with your list!

Not counting books, I think we must have:
Lots of paper - esp. 10x13 or larger for drawing
Crayons, markers, colored pencils, paints
magnifying glass
microscope
scale
tape measure / ruler
blank, bound books for journals
That's my top 10.

I agree the catholic speller series is very good.
How would you rate the Favorite Poems Old and New against Harp and Laurel Wreath? Anyone?
The Comstock book, it's on my wishlist.
1. saint bio books (it's hard to find catholic stuff at the library!)
2. prisma color pencils
3. rosetta stone (language of choice, but I really like the program)
still thinking...

1. Maxwell House Bold (big can)
2. Extra loud alarm clock
3. Good quality dark chocolate
4. A bottle of red wine for the end of the day....
I don't think that's exactly what you ment...
The Comstock book is on my list too. A good pencil sharpener. 3 ring binders and a 3 hole punch. Digi camera.
Interesting question and great timing Martha, I'm going to think on this some more...

I had started a thread back in April or May for Liturgical books to help me plan better and Paula in MN mentioned A Year With God, so I ordered it even though I was wary with the cost...but now that I have it I am wondering how we ever lived without it, I was worried (before it came) that my 10yr old son would be too old for it...he was looking over my shoulder with excitement when it came. So this book is now on my top 10 list! And thanks Paula for guiding me to it!

LOL Lisa - how could I not have those on my list?!
#4 Having everything you need to do your plans actually purchased and on hand. ug. I hate having to get something every time I turn around or worse, half way through the day I plan to do it.

I'm good with Lisa's list !!!
Actually, as we are expecting our sixth soon, I have found my small family has outgrown my school organization & storage methodology! So top of my list would be (aside from the obvious -- books-- and that must-have list is always hopelessly long): Effective means of storage for school supplies for all ages. Those that will allow easy access for the bigs and limited access for the littles!
I would also like to create a few activity trays for my 3 & soon to be 5 year old (again the access issue...). We've not done anything like that before.
Between those 2 categories I think my list would top ten!

I love the Helen Ferris compilation as well as Harp & Laurel Wreath, we've used them both since the beginning of our home schooling adventure 7 years ago I don't think I could part with either one of them
And Lisbet, your list looks ALOT like mine

Well..
-I think that the Helen Farris Anthology would top our list (along with a new anthology every couple of years)
(-Books....lots of them)
-Good quality art supplies (we use Derwent pencils and I have brainwashed my kids into extra care of them )ie. good watercolors, pencils, colored pencils
-SCULPEY!! covers over a multitude of restless hands
-Paper, lots of kind, accesible
-a 'craft shelf' (had one since the beginning and always set one up no matter where we live, or how temporarily we live there!!)
-A library card
-the internet (and at times when mom is on it too much that would change to my 'thing to drop' list)
-chocolate
-a sport for mom to run off the excess steam (utimate frisbee fits that bill this year)
-a good math program that I don't need to think about too much
That's 10 (or eleven )
Kristie
ps Lisbet- your list looks good- I 'm not a coffee drinker so sub in tea, and I'll pass on the wine for a nice dark stout!

I liked Lisa's list too! We're just starting our 3rd year of homeschooling and I don't feel experienced enough yet to list a specific top ten, but our boys always are using a field guide of some sort and all the crafting supplies are good. I've enjoyed seeing the lists so far. Would be good for me to have a top ten to keep me focused on the important things.

I was just telling Theresa yesterday that I absolutely have to have a Catholic Moms calendar! It is the only way that I can organize our busy days. After that, I go with Lisa's list--my first order of business everyday is coffee and my calendar!
Since I have joined this forum, I have purchased so many books, but I would have to say that top tens are ...
computer and printer/photocopier (and Internet)
Catholic World History Timeline
Saints biographies (love those Vision Books)
A Math program
Notebooks and pencils for sketching (still thinking about what works best for us)
Art supplies--paper, sculpey, pastels, paints
Is this a good start? Still thinking ...
