There is an *outside* chance of a move to that area at some point in the next couple of years. I have read up a little on homeschooling in VA and thought I remembered something about a religious exemption or something of that sort.
Also, it would be helpful to get a heads-up on the area - things to do, towns to look at, people, that sort of thing. Also churches of course!
We may have an opportunity for a visit in the very near future, too! So it would be nice to know someone to visit with while we're there!
Blessings,
Nissa

I am and Mary Chris lives across the street from me. Irene is in the neighborhood. Molly Smith is further west...there're bunches of us! How fun!
I homeschool under religious exemption. And this is my parish (which isn't in Loudoun County, technically, but it's close to us). It's a huge county landwise. Let us know what else we can do for you <insert big, Southern hospitality smile here>.

Oh my gosh! That's wonderful! My husband is pursuing some contracts that would bring his work to Herndon and thereabouts.
How does the religious exemption work? What about good homeschooling groups? We're not quite sure where we're looking, though Middleburg was put forward by a colleague of mine - she lives there. It looks lovely, but the sticker shock is something to overcome. Perhaps the entire area is similar?

Middleburg is notoriously expensive, though lovely and it's more rural than where we are. I'd say we're about smack dab in the middle geographically between Middleburg and Herndon. Here's a link to a neighborhood between Middleburg and Herndon, on the Loudoun side. Virginia religious exemption means you submit a letter to your local school district certifying that, due to bona fide religious beliefs, you are not sending your children to the *public* schools. Then you have two people who know you well write certifying that you are genuinely Catholic and you need a letter from your pastor. Then, they never bother you again . There is a homeschooling group in the neighborhood I linked (it's ecumenical), one at the parish I linked, one at the neighboring parish, one at Molly's parish (further west in Purcelville, right down the street from HSLDA--more rural there), one for area Catholic teenagers...

Well friend Nissa, if you go to VA I might have to go also! I have a homeschooling friend in Fort Valley and her sister is in Woodstock and they have been asking us to go there for quite some time. Of course that isn't where you were mentioning, but! It is tempting sometimes!
God love you!

Well, if Brian gets a contract there, I'll let you know and we can pack up together. Praise the Lord, I can write and publish from anywhere, so I'm game for a big move.

Oh Donna Marie - Fort Valley is high on my list of favorite places to live - we are going there for the community bbq at Mt. Zion over the summer. But timing is not right for now. I have finally gotten to a place of contentment with where I am (though I never give up on dreams )
