Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

From HSLDA:

Alaska Stat. § 14.30.010(b)(12). If “the child is being educated in the child’s home by a parent or legal guardian,” the child is exempt from compulsory attendance. Under this option, there are no requirements to notify, seek approval, test, file forms, or have any teacher qualifications. The burden is on the state to prove that parents are not teaching their children.

Can it get any better than this?LOL!

OK, we're moving...

......that is so cool, Theresa! After the rigamarole some folks get down here in the "lower 48", you might get quite a few neighbors!

It is similar here in AZ. Our only requirement is to notify the state, one time, when we start to homeschool. That is it - we don't have to test, keep records, or anything else.

That is great, Laura. Too bad all the states can't be as reasonable!

Actually, according to the HSLDA Alaska is THE most homeschooling friendly state with Texas coming in second.

(Dang it! Still coming in second. First size, now this!)

LOL!

My husband is fond of pointing out that if you cut Alaska in half and made two states out of it, Texas would be the third largest state!LOL!

OUCH!

That's OK, we're still the only state that was its own country! Flying our flag a little higher than Alaskas! Heh, heh, heh!

LOL! I grew up in Alaska. I wish I still lived there    You are so lucky, Theresa.    California, where we live now, isn't too bad as far as homeschooling goes -- you have to send in an affadavit as a private school, and then send in attendance records at the end of the year. So not too restrictive.

But one other advantage with Alaska is that homeschool is so culturally entrenched.   There were "homeschools" long before there were any elsewhere, because of Alaska's independent spirit and because of the distances that made bussing logistics absolutely ridiculous in so many regions.

Wasilla! What a great location! Convenient (in Alaska terms)to everything! Denali, Anchorage, the Kenai Peninsula (and my favorite little town of Seward)all within a day's drive! Big enough to have a movie theatre and a Fred Meyers, but stil a small, friendly town.

Oh, I love Wasilla too! I was up there in 2005 and would love an excuse to go back. He has a beautiful place with 12 acres right on the river. I hadn't realized they were so good to homeschoolers!

My parents live there! By a lake, too.   The only downside is the monster mosquitoes
