Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have been listening to Beethoven's Wig 1 and 2 again and laughing out loud. It's hilarious to listen to my 8yo ds run around the house singing "It's springtime let's sing Vivaldi!"

What are your favorite humorous learning tools? While we're at it, how about your favorite humorous books and movies?

Angie -- you'll be amazed how well the kids will recognize the songs later -- altho mine insist on calling B's 5th Symphony, B's Wig

Another big fav is the Schoolhouse Rock dvd -- now that's a great way to learn!

I passed my 9th grade civics exam -- we had to write the Preamble to the Constitution -- due to Schoolhouse Rock! We love those DVD's.

I really like Themes to Remember by Classical Magic. Goofy little songs, but it is great when your 4 year old hears "Spring" and says, "That's Vivaldi!"

How funny, Angie, that it was the same song I thought of, but a different program!

I just read Eats, Shoots, and Leaves to the boys. They thought it was very funny and...it actually grabbed my oldest son's attention! He is a classic big moving athlete who learns in a big picture way. Details like commas often go ignored. When he looked at me and said, "I get it!" I thought...post it to 4Real .

Love,

We love the Scrambled States of America! We picked up the game version for Christmas last year. Next to Apples to Apples this is my 9 year old ds's favorite game!

Remember doing Mad Libs as a kid? We just picked up a Nancy Drew version, and the kids love it.

Two humorous books we read this year were Homer Price and The Great Turkey Walk.

Oh, another funny learning tool is the cassette that they sell with Hooked on Math. The songs for learning the multiplication tables are a riot (the chorus for the 3 tables is "How many horns in a herd of Triceratops? Looks like there's plenty to me! If I had to round up a herd of Triceratops, I do believe I'd let 'em go free!")

Some of the language arts resources in the WinterPromise program for the early grades are quite lighthearted.

One of my favorite humor tools is I Love Lucy! Truly, there are moments when it has saved our homeschool. Just plunking down for an episode leaves everyone in a much better humor. We also use Veggie Tales as a stress buster - yes, it's twaddle, but it really cracks us up.

I hope others list some humorous books! I'll be checking back!

The girls and I spent the last two days watching the BBC's Jane Eyre .

For some odd reason, my 5-yr-old thinks the insane wife is insanely funny . She gets to laughing everytime the poor woman is shown...even in the bedroom scene. And I was worried...

My 9-yr-old loves Mad Libs. And she just started on Nancy Drew. I'll have to find this one. Thanks for the heads-up.

Lyrical Learning products are funny in their own way. Although the lyrics are, for the most part, serious and informative, combined with traditional song tunes...singing about cold blooded vertebrates to "Johnny Comes Marching Home" is so, well, funny!

Also...I just pieced together that there is a Beethoven's Wig 3.

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far. I hope to make some purchases so keep 'em coming!

Love,

We love all the Beethoven's Wig CDs!
We also love comics and comic strips. We use "Nitty Gritty Grammar" by Edith H. Fine and Judith P. Josephson to teach grammar basics. They use many well known comic strips to explain proper grammar usage. "Laugh 'n' Learn Spanish" by Lynn Johnston and Brenda Wegmann uses Spanish translations of Ms. Johnston's "For Better or For Worse" strip to teach Spanish.
We have many other humorous resources, but these two books are favorites!

Ha! I knew these sounded familiar! I'll need to look in my dd's room and pull them out for my ds. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks to all for your contributions. I've ordered a few and look forward to spending time indoors this summer, laughing at the AZ heat .

Love,
