Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anyone who has this or has used it tell me their thoughts on it? Is it worth the $ ? I know I wouldn't follow all of their suggestions for curriculum. Would I be better off without it then?
I have always used as pre-packaged curriculum but for next school year I feel like I am ready to fly on my own and I am excited about it!
Thanks.

I have it. It outlines their suggestions for 5th-8th grades. You can get a good feel for it if you look in their catalogue and see what is "required" for each of these grades. The history units for 5th-6th grade are like this: Read, do a craft (no instructions or anything...you are expected to come up with the meat of it)or watch a movie or put on a play, answer questions at the end of the chapter, take a test, repeat.

For 7th and 8th grade, read on a predetermined topic (in the MSLP) in a text, in an encyclopedia, and/or a historical fiction book. Keep a timeline and write summaries each week so that you have created your own 'history book' by the end of the year.

The one thing I use regularly in it with my children is the extensive timeline of events, both Catholic and world related. I refer to it often.

Most people I know who have tried the 7th-8th grade histories say that they aren't for children who don't like writing.

If you are going to tweak a lot, I'd figure out what it is you want to use first, and figure out if you can schedule it out yourself without buying the MSLP. If you want to use most of the stuff they recommend, then its worth having on your shelf, and you will need a blank planner.

I love the way everything is laid out for you. I enjoy seeing the big picture before breaking things down into different pieces, so it is great to see what 5-8 can look like and how different skills are building on each other.

If you want to get away from a pre-packaged program you might really enjoy having this as a guide. Even if you only use it for a few subject areas, I think it is well worth it.
