Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK, I think I have a plan, thanks to all you moms who've helped me out! Tell me honestly what you think and how I could improve it.

I have Anna, who will be in 9th grade next year and I'd like to include Carrie (10) and Thomas (newly 8 yesterday!).

Since it's spring and Anna is interested, I'm going to start with a unit on botany right now. I've borrowed the Apologia botany book from a friend. It's too simple for high school, but I'm going to supplement. My plan is to teach it with nature walks. Then she can do some corresponding pages from the hs level botany coloring book I found in my cabinet. She is interested in making potpourri and soap to sell, so she's going to plant       some herbs and flowers. How does this sound?

We're almost finished for the year, but we'll start back in July. Every year I have grand plans for nature study when we start school but it's just too HOT! So during July and August we can do some read alouds and she can do some independent reading. using some books from Elizabeth's list.

Then in September, we are going to do a unit on the ecosystem of the pond across the road. I will come up with some books and experiments to use.

Next winter we will do a unit on weather. And next spring I think we'll study butterflies, since we've never really learned about them.

I think I can find enough books and stuff on the internet to make these things high school level, but yet be able to include my smaller children. I will need some things Anna can read or do when life takes over our house and she needs to work independently.

I need to think of what to call this for Anna's transcript....

Dear Joy,

First WELCOME! to the Forum -- this is a great place to get inspiration and all kinds of great advice!

Your plan sounds great -- work to your daughter's interests and strengths and you'll both learn tons! Your younger two (I have a Thomas who turned 8 in January!) can go along for the ride -- nature studies, read-alouds and lots of the other CM stuff really don't need specific ages ...

Welcome and keep us up on how it's all going....
