Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Friends, I thought it would be a wonderful thing if we had a thread here, ongoing perhaps, of a collection of all our personal favorite articles, posts, or essays that have been really a sort of balm to your heart in the homeschooling journey.

These aren't how-to posts, or posts on methodology really (e.g. though Cindy Rollins' Morning Basket posts had been instrumental for me, I'm not including them.)

These should be posts that have encouraged you and lifted you and offered you hope on the dark days or when faced with discouragement, criticism or setbacks.

I'm coming out of a school year that was utterly demoralizing on so many levels... and going into this next school year, I need to be really gentle with myself and read lots of encouraging article and remember most of all... that THE LESSON IS LOVE!

Please link to your all time favorite bits of homeschooling encouragement. Thank you!

One off the top of my head is one from Julie Bogart:

Don't Trust the Schedule

and also, this isn't specific to homeschooling but it applies very much as you survey the perceived wreckage of all your good intentions and want to crawl away and hide and cry and surrender...

Breaking and Healing the Hearts of our Children

Hi Ellie - this is slightly different. But I thought I would post something I wrote to my local group (not saying it is excellent - but it is something thatI have been pondering and I wanted to share)

Homeschool Rule of Life/Horarium

Will post a link

Such a good idea. Somehow I have not seen Sarah's lovely blog before...How did I miss this? What planet am I on?

Anyway-things like this can be so helpful.

This is a recent piece, but it is such a great summary of life as a homeschooler written by a 20 year veteran. Very encouraging! Homeschool This

It's not an article but I have a few short quotes that I like when life feels like it's overwhelming.

This one seems to help me keep my sense of humor about the struggle to keep up.
Quote:
Time is that quality of nature that keeps events from happening all at once. Lately, it doesn't seem to be working.

This one helps me remember to only deal with today, and not get overwhelmed by the things that aren't even happening yet.
Quote:
Matthew 6:34. Be not therefore solicitous for to morrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.

This one is humorous and also reminds me that sometimes I do need to put forth just a bit more effort.
Quote:
"Now, HERE, you see, it takes all the running YOU can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!" - Alice Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll

This one is just soothing to me. The idea that these things aren't difficult, that they can be simple..
Quote:
Joy was just the thing that he was raised on.
Love was just the way to live and die.
Gold was just the windy Kansas wheat fields.
Blue, just the kansas summer skies.
- John Denver from "Matthew"

And this one is good for when the chaos of a family of 10 kids just seems to be getting to me..
Quote:
Peace: It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm
in your heart

I don't really want to turn this into an "unschooling enabling thread" but so many of my inspirational/comforting reads lean in that direction.

This one is brilliant. Long... but worth the effort. Consider printing it out to savor maybe...
