Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

When you decide to join a homeschool group, what do you expect from the group, and what would you like to have and know?

Well, I try to find a group(or groups) that fits what I am looking for So, what do YOU want?
Having been in many different groups, in different states even, I found they each provided their own "service."   I've been in one that tried to, and succeeded pretty well, to centralize all the stuff homeschoolers in the area needed/ or might want to know. There was one that just did Catholic stuff--celebrate feast days, etc. There was also a field trip only group--that was fun
I like to make sure my kids click and the kids in the group are fairly open and welcoming--and you need to visit a few times to feel this out I hope they do some cool social stuff together like field trips or play ground meetings. Educational group activities--things you can only do in a group setting, not necessarily a co-op but at least a class or two every once in awhile. Currently, I like for one close to home as we live in the country, but I will drive if I must.
I haven't had to worry about religious or political stuff as most all the groups I have been in have really just been about homeschooling. There have been no statements of faith or anything to sign. Mos tof the time I have seen that with co-ops.
We are currently active in 2 groups and members of another one. I find one has a great message board with really good information going through, but I've never been to an activity.
So, figure out what you want, go check a few out, and have fun. We love our homeschool group friends.

We are part of one group that is just our local Catholic homeschooling families. It's very informal. There are about 10 families. We get together each week to socialize. Otherwise we celebrate feast days and occasionally go on field trips. This fall we are planning to do Classically Catholic Memory as a co-op, but that's a new venture for us!

I'm also associated with a large group that does lots of field trips, co-ops, sports, and educational activities (book clubs and things like that). I'm not involved, though, other than joining in on some of their activities from time-to-time. They are very welcoming when others want to join in on trips.

So, for us, I like to stick with our core group of Catholic homeschoolers and take advantage of the opportunities in the other group. I'm not looking for much other than a social outlet for me and my kids and some occasional field trips.

I like the group we are part of. It is a "meetup" group, focused on field trips and group activities. They have an art meetup at least once a month, with a group art project, and two or more nature exploration type field trips every month. Anyone can plan and host a field trip or activity, and there have been things from fire station visits, to a pumpkin patch/farm tour, to playdates and informal park get togethers. It is a pretty active group, and although it covers a fairly wide geographical area, it does offer a great variety of options. I like that we can pick and choose which activities to attend and can host or help if we want to. It works well with our schedule because we get some good exposure to art, nature study, and other topics, but we don't have to worry about committing to a particular day/time on an ongoing basis. We've also had some coffee/chat meetups just for the moms, as well as curriculum/resource sharing meetups, and those are fun too.
