Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi ladies,
So, I know what I want to do, but can't seem to find what I need. Here is the idea... I have a bookcase, that happens to be the first thing you see when you walk in my front door, it is full of the kids workbooks and binders. Now the binders I can cover, con-tact paper in black, chalkboard, or maybe a pretty pattern. But, what bout ALL those workbooks? I was thinking I could create a box system, with a box for each day for each child. Hence, I'd have 4 boxes (we have a M/W, T/TH sch.) full of multi-colored workbooks. I could cover the boxes...here is the problem... what boxes? Ideally, the boxes should be sturdy and flat (not rippled making them hard to cover), and have handles. Bonus points for Made in the USA :) Any suggestions? I found these at the Container Store,http://www.containerstore.com/shop/office/fileStorage/ portable?productId=10022942&N=74545
But, my shelf is only 12" deep, and they look hard to cover? Any ideas on the boxes ? Any ideas for covering a ton of books, fast and on the cheap?

I slowly converted from plastic boxes to pretty baskets that I picked up at Trader Joe's. Do you have one near you? They are mostly square baskets (the sides slant out just a tiny bit) and the smaller ones fit very nicely on my shelves that probably aren't quite 12" deep. They aren't super cheap, maybe $6 or $7 each, but I picked up one or two each time I went shopping. I think they are mostly in stock at Christmas time, but I think they had some at Easter as well. They are very sturdy and my children keep their school books in them.

They look very nice. Much, much nicer than the platic boxes.

What about magazine files? The cardboard ones from Ikea are cheap and sturdy and easy to cover with pretty paper.

I was thinking magazine files too. That's what I use for our math books. I got a set from Ikea for almost nothing. I didn't cover mine, but you sure could.

I was going to recommend the wooden magazine files from Ikea. They are pretty as is, but could be covered too. They are very sturdy and don't cost a bundle.

Cheap and easy, but might not be your style.

Diaper boxes covered with cute patterned duct tape. The picture looked really cute and the boxes do happen to be very durable and usually have a built in handle slot.

I'm thinking about it for organizing my books for the year. All the books I want to do with the younger ones in each box. Put away but not out of sight on a top shelf in the school room.

I think I saw the idea on Pinterest and they used it in a bookcase.

Now that is a neat idea! I could use Con-Tact Paper instead. Have you seen all the pretty designs Con-Tact brand comes in these days? They even have black chalkboard paper, which looks like great fun. Look at the patterns! Magic Cover too. All are made by Kittrich http://kittrich.com/brands/con-tact/
