Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have seen this phrase used on this board multiple times and it has really started to tumble around in my mind. However, I am curious as to the source of the phrase. I googled it and found connections to Aristotle and St. Thomas. I haven't found a particular quote, though.

I'm thinking that I would like to use it to frame our goals for the coming year and would like to print it and display it in our schoolroom. Could someone explain the source - does it come from a larger quote?

"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Philippians 4:8 (RSV)

Other translations might use the actual words good, true, and beautiful.

I know Plato/Socrates often refer to the good and the beautiful... not positive that he included "true in there, but I would think it might predate the New Testament and have a source in the Greek philosophers.

okay, just googled... and wiki thinks you won't really find a source: Transcendentals. Not that wiki is a final answer!
