Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

...to enhance a more advanced Church history timeline for highschoolers)? We're using larger presentation books with black pages, gold and silver pens, the basic timeline from the EPIC DVD series, and pages of Gloria Thomas' gorgeous "2000 Years of Christian History" for core illustrations. Additional images, holy cards, postcards or scrapbook type details for enhancments come to mind ~ I'd love ideas for where I might "easily" locate such things over the upcoming months.

Does anyone know anything about the CD Rom put out by NewAdvent.org, based on the 1913 version of the Catholic Encyclopedia? I emailed them to ask, but thought perhaps someone here might know.

I've only scratched the surface with online searches so far ~ my head is swimming ~ I guess covering 2000 plus years can be somewhat daunting if considered all at once. I was really hoping to find images, little by little, before dc cover each time period, then let them take over on the timeline and individual notebooks. Another resource, like the Cath. Ency. on the New Advent CD Rom, might cut down on prep work.

I was also wondering if anyone knows of a geography resource with period specific maps?

I'm sorry to be asking so many questions the week before we begin. Planning has been rushed and sporadic this year. I had the core plans done rather quickly, but these extras make it seem like we're in over our heads before we even begin. I was so hoping to provide inspiring tools for dc to creatively explore the history of our Faith, but my efforts thus far seem scanty and incomplete compared to what I had envisioned offering them. I'd be ever so grateful for ideas or input. Maybe, I'm taking the wrong approach altogether.

You can often find holy cards at churches...people leave extras in little baskets for others to pick up.

Also, we get a lot of calendars in the mail from churches...maybe you do, too?

Ask your local Freecycle group for bits and pieces of leftover scrapbooking embellishments with religious themes.

Let me think some more....

Oh, thank you so much, Nancy, for the great ideas. We actually have a drawer where we've stashed holy cards, pamphlets and calendars over the years. Headed there next! I've been wondering why we've been accumulating so many of those treasures all these years and had actually forgotten we had them since the drawer is tucked in the back of dh's closet! You're an angel, Nancy, for jogging my menopausal memory!!!

Right after I sent my "desperation post", I went back through my history of searches from today and found that Catholic Answers has a version of the Catholic Encyclopedia at the address below, complete with images AND maps! I was confused between New Advent and Catholic Answers, since they both feature versions of the Catholic Encyclopedia! The Catholic Answers version is free by simply registering on their site, again for free. Thanks also to my ever-present-ever-loyal-intercessor St. Anthony! http://oce.catholic.com/index.php?title=Home

I do highly recommend Freecycle. People offer up the most bizarre items...and they are taken. (Recent example: Aidell's sausages from Costco...the person offering them didn't like them, so she gave the rest away via Freecycle.)
