How do you do your lesson planning? Do you plan a whole year in dvance, breaking it down weekly/daily? Or do you just plan week to week? Do you use a planner? If so which one?

I do an overview every summer.   After ten years of homeschooling I finally have a general sense of where I want my kids to go as far as covering topics and developing skills.   But it's very general.

Every year I look at where the kids are now, list some areas to focus on (not just academics by any means, but also character, life skill, whatever comes to mind)-- then I plan and buy curriculum and books and materials.

In recent summers I've tried to lay out tentative book schedules.   But keep in mind that I have 7 kids, 5 of them school-age and 3 of them highschoolers.   I didn't do as much formal planning when they were younger.

Also, though I write out plans and book-lists, we NEVER get to all of it and that's OK.

Sometime about half-way through the year I usually make major re-adjustments to my plans. This used to make me feel very dis-organized but now I realize that's just how I work and how I am sensitive to my kids' development and the changes in family needs.

I make informal plans for weekly and daily.   Sometimes I write them out if I'm getting confused or trying to form a new habit, ie include picture study, but often we just keep doing the next thing.   My kids have a checklist to work from.   I start this about the time they start complaining about what they have to do and wanting a concrete sense of what the day will look like. That's usually about age 9.... my 3rd grader is just phasing into this.   At the beginning of the year he was content just to follow my lead.

That's how we do it, with minor variations! Hope it helps!
