Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

yeah look at how many things you could get rid of that don't cost you money if you just get a smartphone and pay an extra $30+ a month just to own the thing

I am DYING for an iphone just for all the great apps etc. We are not cell phone people here. We have a very old cell phone that we pay $10 a month for and half the time I have no idea where it is and it isn't charged.

I keep joking with my husband that I want an iphone with just the media plan but no phone plan.

Anyway I found the article interesting. Thanks!

I have to say, as a non-techie type a gal - I LOVE MY IPHONE!!!!!!!
I hated my gps, the digital camera, thumb drives, backing up my files, and on and on. Love/Hate relationship with my ipod. I ignored technology as much as I could get away with it.

But, now that I have an iphone.......
I actually take pictures (and video's!) of my children and our activities, set calendar reminders, answer email, and read the news online.

I love, love, love it.
And, yes - I am getting rid of many of those other things - GPS, address book, and anything else I can get rid of.
And in my opinion, it is worth every single penny I pay for it, monthly. I never even flinch.

The desktop will be the next to go (not until it reallyreally dies).

But, I'm telling you right now, I don't care what anyone says.....
I am not getting rid of my books!

May I ask you how much do you pay for your iphone monthly?

I imagine you have to purchase the phone? Then you have to pay for a phone plan? And then in addition pay for a media plan? Is that how it works?

As I mentioned my husband and I share one very old cell phone (no texting, no nothing) and have no idea what3g or 4g mean or how these things work!

Thanks
Jamie, who loves the idea of an iphone.

$120/month for just my phone.
And I have everything.
Yes, we had to purchase the phone.
It was a couple hundred I want to say - I wasn't there.
Hubby picked it up.

What I am not telling you, is how it happened. Normally, I never want the $$$ gadgets or technology.
But, last September hubby was promoted and our latest move was to Pennsylvania. We are from Texas, DFW to be exact. We came here from Jacksonville, FL.
We live on a mountain, in the teeniest town I have ever seen. We have a gas station and a pharmacy in town. No stop light.
We live on some land, and I discovered immediately....
we couldn't get our cable and phone hooked up, Comcast doesn't come this far out. So, no cable, no phone, and no computer, and THEN we had no cell service on our mountain. So, the children and I (and did I mention my parents live with us? and didn't really want to move north?) are like refugees - with no contact with the outside world......
and THEN the UPS man comes to our house (I can still buy stuff! Amazon & EBAY deliver!), he is talking on his cell phone! I ambushed him - "were you talking on the phone?" I demanded. Poor guy, looked like he thought he was in trouble "Yes" he answered. "Who is your provider?" I am excited now. Light at the end of the tunnel! "Oh, you're new here aren't you?" (brilliant guy here, you ought to hear my accent!) So, he proceeds to tell me AT&T is the only one who works up in the mountains around here. I wanted to hug him and kiss his whole face. I didn't. Just thanked him profusely.
So, I waited until dh arrived home from work, and told him he would be getting me a phone and I didn't care what it cost, what it took, or how much time it took. By this point of the whole transfer/move/and so forth.... he just said ok. Did I mention I am menopausal, too? As it turns out, if you have Sprint and they can't service you, they will cancel your contract no big deal.
And, then I sent him down to knock on the neighbors doors and find out who they got cable, phone and internet from that same night. A gal can only take so much, and I was hanging over the ragged edge. So - now, we have Verizon at home, and the next evening he arrived home from work with a snazzy new iphone with a pink cover for me.
Presto! Chango! I enter the technology age .

ETA - and I am still friends with my UPS guy!
