Good morning ladies. : ) Lent is almost upon us and I am once again decluttering and reorganizing our home.
I am not pleased with how I keep our art and craft materials. Most items are in a big plastic container in my son's closet, but it hard to find things at times as everything is packed in so tightly. There must be a better way!  
I would love suggestions. How does everyone store everything? From crayons and pencils to papers and laminators?

OK, we have way too many art and craft supplies, but my kids (especially my son) just love art. I have a closet in the playroom where I keep it. I have two old dressers that I use in that closet to store the stuff. That way, everything has it's own drawer (paints, paper, coloring books, a couple drawers of different projects, etc). I used to have everything in a couple of large plastic tubs, but I could NEVER find what I was looking for without making a holy mess. HTH

multiple smaller containers.. it makes it so much easier to access something than digging through a large container. I also use a drawer in a file cabinet for papers.. and tackle boxes (that can be locked) for things like glue and scissors and pencils (otherwise my pencils disappear.. this way I can hand them out as needed)

I like having small boxes as well. I am using plastic shoe containers. One for glue, one for markers, one for pastels/charcoal, scissors....etc.
It seems to work although I do find that I need to go through it a couple times a year to restore order.

Ohh big question.
Lamintor and binder go under a cupboard (on legs) in the study. Paper goes in the cupboard above, in the same cupboard is a row of shallow drawers, specialised art supplies go in some of those drawers. The watercolours, pastels, oil pastels etc.
General pencils go in individual tins sorted by colour in on a shelf in the TV cabinet, next to the table where we work. I also have a bucket of lead pencils, erasers, staplers etc there. Items we use on a regular daily basis. On the bottom shelf of that cupboard another container houses sticky tape, scissors etc. Items I want regularly but not necessarily daily.
The craft supplies go in clear containers-labelled, these reside in my pantry. One day I'll have all craft and stationary in the one cupboard.

We have a tall cupboard next to our family command center, where most of our art supplies go. Pegboard in the back of the cupboard (replacing the original back) holds tape, scissors and other items that can be hung on a vertical surface. Frequently used items, such as colored pencils, markers, etc. reside in cups or containers on deeper booksheles. We've also found handled wooden boxes, with several sections originally intended for silverware, to be compact, useful containers for multiple art supplies! Out of sight out of mind can stifle creativity...it's nice to have some art stuff out where it will inspire and be used!

This is pretty much how I organize as well. We have an under-the-counter cabinet in the dining area of our kitchen where I keep them all. Paper is kept in the file cabinet in the office--not ideal, but it would never fit in the art cabinet, which is at capacity right now. I have my own art supplies (cardstock for printing, my scissors and markers, etc.) in the office as well, since that is where our printer lives.

Oh, I also use smaller boxes (like toddler shoe boxes) for our writing implements: one for colored pencils, one for markers, one for crayons. These are in daily use, so I like to have them open-topped and ready to be set right out onto the dining table.

for crayons we use a red licorice tub.. you know the ones with like 500 pieces of licorice.. I'll get one for all summer for instance.. and then save the container after it's empty.. it's nice because it's big enough to move the crayons around looking for the one you want.

When we moved we finally tamed the crazy Arts and Crafts supplies in our school room.
Crayons: We have a basket with a large handle that gets all the stray crayons. We also have zippered pencil pouches with some so that we can take them with us if we want to travel to another part of the house or outside.
Note: The pencil pouches that go on sale at the beginning of the school year are AWESOME for sorting BUT get the ones with a clear window in the front. That way you can see what is inside. We store a tom of stuff in those: pipe cleaners, pastels, crayons, colored pencils, random erasers, index cards ect.
Paints: We store paint brushes in glasses on top of our bookshelf. Tall enough so the little ones can't get to them but my oldest can. Paints are sorted in plastic carry alls all standing up. Watercolors are sorted into drawers.
I bought this set of drawers actually it is double this size) and stored all our little arts and crafts things into this. I got a bunch of zip lock bags of different sizes and sorted it all out. Then I use my handy dandy label maker and LABELED EACH DRAWER!!! What a concept for me but wow now its all sorted :)

I posted a picture here of my cabinet for these types of supplies.
I use lots of ziploc baggies for small groups of items that are stored inside larger containers.

Thank you ladies! I have some good ideas to get started getting organized now.
I do need to find some more clear, small plastic containers. I already have a few to keep things like beads and pom poms in. I think I may get another file basket to store our papers in.
We may clear out a couple dresser drawers to make room for craft supplies. It would certainly make it easier to find things. : )
