I'm just wondering how many of you have a 5 day school week. It seems, that from the beginning of our homeschool journey, a 4 day week is what I heard most homeschoolers talk about. Now, sometimes on Fridays which is our 5th day and the day we take off from school (but I do some planning), I start to feel like I should have more structure in our day. But, after 9 years of "no Friday school" it's hard to even think about implementing! What do you think? (I will add that up until Christmas, our Fridays included piano lessons and composer/art study. Now, due to the piano teacher's schedule change, that has been moved to Thursday afternoon - leaving us with nothing for Friday.)

I am interested to see what others say. My plan right now is to have Wed off from formal school. We will go to the library on Wed and do nature study, hikes, etc. We might do a science experiment or use math manipulatives...just have a fun day. This is also the day I plan to do field trips. I am sure once the kids get older, I might add more structure. Also, since I am a novice at this, I might change my mind too!

When we were doing Kolbe it was structured as a four day a week schedule. So we ended using the fifth day as catch up or for bigger projects and park days with our group (was very unstructured and usually we ended up doing nothing but parkday).
I pretty much tried to set up our week the same way this time around, but with some transition. I assume we can get a good 1 - 1.5 hour in before any park day/group activities and the kids do treat it as a school day (just a shorter one, we always start about 30 min later than M-TH). We still use it for catching up(we look over their weekly check off list), reinforcing of specific subjects like math(listed as 5x/week) and we have our Shakespeare readings on this day.
So far I feel good about it and it gives the kids focus

My younger children get a 4 day week, but starting at about 7th grade or so we go to a 5 day week. Especially this year with our three oldest in an HEP, they need those 5 days.

Like Lisa, when the children were younger we tended to work a shorter week. As they reached 7th grade we found we simply had to work a longer week, although the younger ones often finish earlier. Fridays often are shorter days though as we try to go to midday Mass.

We do Seton which is a five day week, but even with Seton the younger kids have a much shorter day on Friday- but that goes out the window when you get to high school.

We do five regular days (Monday through Friday) and some subjects (health, art history, and music theory) on Saturdays. We also have gymnastics and some ballet classes on Saturdays. Tuesday is a little bit different as well: Before school we go to Mass and to the library.

we tend to a 4 day week.. the schools here are on a 4 day week.. and so since the rest of the "world" happens around that.. it's just easier to go with the flow.. on the days that there is no school and no distractions for the kids.. we may have school or at least some anyway.

We follow five day weeks, though Friday schedule with OLV is somewhat shorter and we then bake extra things for the shabat and in preparation for the weekend. The afternoons always have music practice and theater or crafts revolving our independent block studies.
I do enjoy having the rythm of five days, my children and I tend to have a hard time when things do not follow a routine, it is easier then to go five days with regular "class" and two weekend days off. Then again they are also small yet, so who knows what will work best in the future.

We enjoy a 5 day week with Friday being a day with special time set aside for focusing on the arts - our *FINE ARTS FRIDAY*.
We all used to really enjoy a 4 day week when the big children were younger, but with some older and some younger I find that my time is better used spread out across 5 days. My little people don't always have *structured* lessons 5 days/week. We're much more relaxed in the early elementary grades here.

I'm on a 3 day teaching/focus on formal skills and home ed. schedule, M-W.
15yo is on a 5 day/full day/mostly independent schedule + Saturday homework if needed.
12yo is on a 5 day/M-F/ modified day schedule - no Saturday.
5yo is on a 5 day/M-F/ relaxed schedule.
Thursday I plan and attend to other duties of my vocation. Students can come to me for assistance on their initiative.
Friday we clean the house, wrap up formal studies and often have time for outings (all or some of us.)
No studies/planning from sunset on Saturday through Sunday sunset.
Now...this is our ideal, but it doesn't always play out ideally  . But, for the most part it does. What does work is the idea that each of us is on a different track...each is responsible for staying on our track. When we get off track, and we do, then we help eachother to get back on.

Erin, it's all about money.. lack of. Not only is school only 4 days a week but they've cut out most non-essentials. Sports are run on fund raisers and donations and fees. They cut the number of days down to close to the minimum.
