From the favorite basket thread (page 5) a wonderful spin-off idea has begun -- sharing small space storage solutions!
Share your best ideas and use of storage containers for solving and addressing small space storage issues! ANY container is a good container if it addresses a storage need - old mayonnaise jar, shoe boxes, plastic bins, plastic milk crates, baskets of all sizes and shapes...any container that holds something can be helpful in the home. Large families have unique storage needs, and almost any family, no matter the size of their home, comes across a storage problem at some point! Let's brainstorm some ideas here!!!!

I should probably post this on a different thread, since these are plastic (I know, tacky...but they're sooo handy and utilitarian). I recently ordered these:

We originally bought several of these to tote various and sundry items out-of-state for our daughter's wedding...they travelled really well, stacked two and three high, never tipped, and looked so nice, especially while everything was being packed in our spare 'oom for the grand wedding trip, and when we had to carry things back and forth for the wedding. We left them with dd, to help her set up housekeeping, and added a few more as her family has grown. I've been keeping an eye out for more, but the stores we'd purchased them at had all stopped selling them. I finally checked good ol' Amazon and am now awaiting the arrival of a set 6 of these handy-dandy items! They're a great size for storing and/or sorting laundry. They're quite roomy and have nice easy access from the front, even when stacked. The specs say they can support 25lb. when stacked three high. I think we easily exceeded that amount on occasion, with books or canned goods. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else is in need of more utilitarian baskets. BTW, with free S&H these ended up being slightly less than any in-store prices we've paid for them thus far.

Oh goodness, Servant! These do look terribly useful!!! Sometimes plastic is just a perfect fit! I'm so glad you shared these!! I have an extremely small laundry space, and these stacking bins look like they might be just right for stacking/sorting and going vertical with storage in there! THANK YOU!!!!

Jen, we're in the same boat, with rather limited space for laundry on the main floor...under our bathroom sink counter there's just enough space for two of these baskets. The rest will probably reside in our spare 'oom closet, where we have a constant flow of extra items that don't have permanent homes (usually odds 'n ends destined for adult dc's homes). I love going vertical, especially in tight spaces!

This idea isn't a basket at all except that I was looking for something "basket-like" ?(pretty/natural for hte living room) to keep all the Wii attachments in (the remotes, nunchuks and microphones)..
a bread box.. it let's me put the dvd player on top of it and I can use a plastic shoe box to hold everything and it fits inside the bread box with a lid that closes and looks nice in the living room being wood instead of plastic.

Love the bread basket idea, Jodie!!! I've seen a bread basket used to store electronic devices that have to charge as well - if you have ample counter space, drill a hole in the back and put a multi plug in there with its cord going out the back and plugged in. You can plug in cell phones and other devices here with the box closed.
Keep the great ideas coming!

We have a very small linen press, particularly when you consider it is for 10 people. One tip is to roll your towels, you can fit far more in that way.

An old index card holder is great for storing bulk purchases of AA or 9V batteries. It eliminates wrestling with bulky packaging in the "junk" drawer!
