You all had so many great ideas on my desk organization issue that I thought you may have some ideas for the one thing I've never been able to conquer...all those odd things you hang onto for your kids to create with...paper towel tubes, styrofoam thingies, odd little bottles, and all those other weird things of various sizes. I have them in boxes now that everyone digs through and try to keep the glass jars in separate containers; but, I'd like something more organized so they can see what all is there. Ideas?

My mom always collects things like that too. She finally had my dad build a wall of shelves in the basement to store everything on. It works great!

I keep a stock only. So I decide I'm going to have six tp rolls and six paper towel rolls and 6 jars and 6 empty boxes total, whatever you decide. I find that it's easier for me to keep them in the box if I limit what I save and replenish the store so to speak. I like the plastic bin with the lift up top for this. That way no one looses the top to the bin. I do have another bin for yarn and fabric scraps and rolling drawer thing for paper kinds.

I've been meaning to get back to this...not that I have any great ideas because I have wondered how to keep this type of thing organized as well!

For small craft items, I group in small paper bags (lunch sacks) and write on the outside in a colored pencil or marker whatever is inside - wooden doll heads, craft sticks, whatever. I keep these in a bin in my storage cabinet. For larger collections like felt, clay, paper punches, holy cards and liturgical year crafting supplies - I keep these in large clear bins, labeled with my label maker. These bins live on high shelves. We don't go to them every day, but they're out, labeled and accessible, and make good use of higher shelves.

If space or cost weren't an issue, I'd probably organize by grouping in clear plastic shoe boxes (for small collections) and med-lg clear bins (for larger collections), each labeled and stacked and out on shelves so they were accessible.

I will confess to you that I have become pretty strict in terms of what I keep for crafting in order to be frugal with space and storage.
