I think I'm going to have to break down and buy another printer for my laptop. Right now I am trying to use the printer attached to my desktop, but Vista (on my laptop) doesn't support the printer. So I was saving onto CD, then printing from my desktop. But my 2 yo filled my CD drive with pennies (ahem) and now it only works erratically.
Any suggestions? I'm just at the beginning of this, talking to my dh about whether I need another printer or not. I don't want to spend a lot of money.

Do you have wifi at home?
We finally broke down and bought an Epson Workforce 600 wireless printer. What a change! I can print from anywhere...and it has saved me so much time!
I think the printer was $200 or so; we bought it at Best Buy several months ago.

Angela,
Do you have a router? Are your computers networked? I ask because that has been by far the easiest way I have found to print from my laptop. Even if you can't get the laptop to talk to the desktop printer on the network it's easy to simply place a document on the desktop from the laptop and print from there. All our computers are networked. If I need my husband to look at something I just transfer it via the network right to his desktop. Not that he knows how to do the same but he appreciates that I do.

I do have wifi, but no router or network. How difficult is it to network your computers?

Whatever you do...don't buy any HP wireless printers. We bought one in Dec...had major problems...switched it out for another...and have the same problems.
It will not print wireless...though it is supposed to...(sigh)...
I think printers are like wine...you pay for what you get.

OK I am NOT an expert but if you have wifi how do you not have a router --or do you mean your laptop has wifi?
Let me ask it this way. Does your laptop pick up your internet wirelessly? If so then it's getting routed somewhere. Setting up a network can be easy but it can be troublesome too. Best to have someone do it who knows how or doesn't mind spending some time trying.

Michele, I am nearly technologically illiterate.
But what I have is a wireless cable modem. It plugs into my desktop so my laptop can access it wirelessly. But I cannot share files with my PC. I could email them to myself, check my email on my PC, then print from there... but nothing will show up on the desktop.

You could use Google docs. Just save your files to Google docs and then you can access and print them from any computer.

Our computers are all networked and I actually have my laptop hooked up to use two printers. I can use the HP6100 which is colour or I can switch to the laser printer, a B&W Brother. Dh has set it up so it is a matter of selecting which one in my print options.

We have the same situation in our house. I am not sure how it all works, but it is great because I can print out to the school room (an HP 1500) or upstairs to the study.
We also said goodbye to Vista and upgraded to Windows 7. I am very happy we made this change although at first, it did take a bit to get used to it.
