Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi everyone!
Does anyone have this book and could give a summary and recommendation? I stumbled on the jmjpublishing website and I'm still reading, trying to learn more and just wondered what any of you knew about this. I do have a few organizational books - wondering how this compares....
Thanks!
God bless,
Angela

Hi Angela,

I just recently bought this book...it's a spiral bound 8 1/2 x 11 with copyable worksheets. It's directly related to homeschooling organization. It's a Catholic and Montessori approach to FlyLady. Suzanne does a great job on combining tasks with a reflection on a certain virtue for the task. She has 12 steps:
1) papers
2) books
3) toys
4) furniture
5) clothes
6) clutter
7) routine
8) learning materials
9) Prepared Environment
10) Calendar
11) Work Plan
12) Freedom of Livable Learning

I wasn't quite ready to use it as it is written...because I'm not in the homeschooling as of yet, but I am using some of her suggestions and planning our environment in our new house. I have lots of organizational books, too. I find I take a little from here and there (I guess the way I would do education), so I would recommend this little book as a different angle.

Are you on any of Suzanne's Yahoo lists? She has great practical ideas on making environments organized, kid-friendly, but inexpensive. I'm still reading about Montessori, but the prepared organized environments are very appealing to me.

Hi Jenn,
I was really hoping someone would reply...so thanks! I appreciate your summary and experience with it. I really liked what I've read (on her website, etc.)so far, just wondered what others thought.

I've just joined the liveable learning list. What other lists does she have? I'm also just learning about Montessori but with five kids, sometimes there just doesn't seem enough hours in the day to do all the reading/learning/implementing I'd like to!

Thanks again for your help!
God bless,
Angela

It's Joanna, right? Hi!

Try here:
jmjpublishing.com/teacherpreparation.htm

The rest of that site is great, too. I'm really enjoying perusing...

God bless,
Angela

To me, the book was a valuable framework for thinking about order. It is a very slender book though, if price is a concern. I htought it read like an outline of a great talk on the topic. Anyone know if, indeed, there is such a talk?

When I got the book it was the same time that Chari had posted prayers for an upcoming book project, with the theme Catholic FlyLady.

She has the Catholic Learning list which is based on implementing the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in the home.

I only have one and still am overwhelmed at how much reading/learning/implementing I want to do and no time/energy to do it all!!

Yea, I just couldn't quite bring myself to pay that much for the book. I have just about every other organization book imaginable already that I need to finish reading.

Back to MROL...

Oh, I spent less than that. I found her ebay store selling it for $11.05 plus shipping. I wouldn't have paid $18.95 for it, either!

I am tempted to get this book, but I'm wondering if it is much different from MOTH? I like Montessori and use some of the methodology with my younger dc. Just wondering if this book would be any more helpful than others I have read?

The book is about 30 single sided pages in fonts of 12 or larger. Nineteen pages are the meat of the text. There are some very good things on these pages--a nice application of organizational philosophy to MOntessori with an eye towards virtue development. I could see a group of women using one book (locally) to discuss and to encourage one another. The pages have been photocopied in black ink. Then, there are five "journal" pages with headings at the top and blank space. Then, six pages of charts to inventory what you own. Finally, there are two pages to plan your week's worth. The book has sturdy paper covers and spiral binding. There is no other organizational book that does what this one does but it is pricey for the product you hold. I guess the question is: what price can you put on the philosophy?

MOTH is a much more substantial book, much more professinally published, but you can't really compare the two because the philosophy is entirely different. Frankly, I'd take Montessori mixed with the FLYlady over MOTH any day!
