Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Tomorrow is All Saints Day and I am trying to think of some things to put out for the kids to do regarding the saints. I do have saints matching and 3 part cards. Any other suggestions?

Becky,

I can't remember how old your children are but today I had to pull things together (All Saints here today)last minute. I went to Jenn's sitefor some great ideas and to Catholic culturewhere I found some great ideas from guess who? Jenn Miller

My favourite last minute idea I adapted from Alice's site(see Jenn's link) was her saint's spoon craft. As I didn't have any spoons but we did have lots of plastic cups we decorated them. Alternatively you could use toilet rolls. Dd glued her saint's costume with material and the boys painted theirs. The younger dc coloured in a saint's picture they chose from a saint's colouring in book.

The boys then re-anacted some saint's scenes using extra (unpainted) cups as all the army men. We were entertained with Ignatius' battle when his leg was damaged by the cannon ball which ultimately led to his conversion. Complete with cannon and ball. Joan of Arc's battle with horses and flying arrows (toothpicks raining) and then St George and the dragon with dinosaurs and Babrie (the princess)tied to the post. They had a thoroughly good time, and so did we the audience.

We then cooked up many goodies and had an afternoon tea complete with a saints quiz (from the Catholic culture site) and I made up extra adlib. Oh and we also used the 'Pray for Us' cards.

I found the sites good as it got my thoughts going. We didn't attempt them all and much of what we did I took and adapted to suit my resources and time. Many of the other sites Jenn linked too had some great party ideas it was just that wasn't what I needed today. My dc are 13 down to 2 (not including the baby) and they all joined in

Thanks, Erin for pointing me to Jenn's site and thanks Jenn, for all your great ideas!!
Mary, the saints matching cards are actually just a set of saints Holy Cards that I bought from CHC. There are at least two of each saint so my kids just match them, or play Memory with them. The 3 part cards are sort of an extension. The 3 parts are the picture of the saint, the saints name, and then one card with both the picture and the name (the control card). The child lays out the saint pictures and then tries to find the saints name which he places under the picture. Then he finds the control card to check it. OR, the child could lay out all the control cards then match the picture and name. The second version is a little easier. You could actually extend this by making 4 part cards. In this case you would have the 3 parts above, but add a fourth card which contains a short paragraph describing the saint. This fourth part, the paragraph, would actually be added to the control cards as well. I hope this is making sense.
Blessings!
Becky
