Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

on your back and wrap around the front?? I think I saw once on Lisbets? blog awhile back a picture. I am thinking about getting one but I forget what they are called and where you can get one.

I sounded completely unitelligible there but I will say 34 weeks pregnant as my excuse.

Thanks,

Is it the ERGO you were seeing? There are several other types. This is the kind I have and LOVE! If this isn't it, then you may find it here.

Holly -- This is the thread where you can see Lisa wearing her little one in a MOby Wrap. If you search "Moby Wrap" in this category you'll find lots of conversations and advice about the various carries. This is Lisa's back carry tutorial and the ensuing Q and A session. I've bookmarked all these myself to look over in the next few months.

I was just coming to say that it was a Moby...but I see Colleen beat me to it!

I love the Moby wrap so much, especially when they are tiny!!! Now that Katie is bigger, I have really been enjoying the Ergo.

You can use most wraps (except some rebozos) on your back with a little practice... even with new little babies.

The Moby is an excellent choice for newborns because you are able to get such a nice, snug fit. (Another very similar option, but one with a bit less fabric and prettier fabric choices IMHO is the GypsyMama BBS. If you shop around online you can find these as cheap or cheaper than a Moby... I got a gorgeous store model for only $30!) However, once the baby hits a certain weight, I move on to a different carrier because the stretch just doesn't do very well on older babies. A stronger weave on the wraps or a diferent type of carrier altogether would suit you well.

The Ergo is wonderful, easy and a great choice all around. (Patapum is a slightly cheaper version of the Ergo... but they feel almost the same: Ergo is slightly superior on shoulder comfort because of the curved straps) However even these get grown out of once baby is a certain height; my kids are done with them at about 15 months I think.

The carrier that I think has the longest LIFESPAN for a baby that I've used is a mei tai, which is the comfort of a wrap with not too much fuss on the straps. I can wear my 3 year old in a mei tai with ease because of the high back and the ability to cross the straps for better weight distribution. There are tons of great models out there. Babyhawk and Kozy are just two of the top rated models.

If you are at all handy with a sewing machine you can make your own. I've been making my own mei tais for some time now and I really enjoy being able to customize my fabrics and such. Here is my wee little website.

Thank you.

I could not remember who and where. I have an over the shoulder baby holder which I used with 4 of the 5 but I was looking for something to the back part to for later on, cause this 2 1/2 year that I have is really mean at times. Sigh...

Thank you for responding so quickly.

Holly, How are you feeling? Not much longer now huh?!

I use wraps mostly, because I really like the versitility. I do have two MT and those work great for back carries, yet I personally feel limited in where I can tie/place the straps. My husband LOVES his MT for toddlers. I have some tutorials on my blog if your interested.

Thanks Lisbet.

I read through your site. Can I use the Moby, the way you do it? I can't sew and don't know the first thing about fabric, so there is no way I could make one.

I feel fine. The baby is being sectioned on the 12th, but I am 3 weeks behind you, cause my C-sections have to be done at 37 weeks. I have a big x on my uterus and I can't labor at all. I am used to it, but I must say I am happy not to go through those last 3 weeks cause 34 weeks is bad enough:) Not that I would ever say that to someone who "only has 2 kids" and thinks I am nuts....:)

Holly.. the stretchy wrap i have (like a moby I think) is simply a long piece of fabric cut down the middle(to make it narrower).. because it doesn't fray at the edges it's not sew at all.. I think it's a stretch gauze.. the friened that gave it to me said it was more for the front carries though.

If you want to get tons of opinions and options for baby wearing (and totally overwhelmed to start with!) check out http://thebabywearer.com/

I love my MobyD, but finally found my true love with a Beco Butterfly II. It is just wonderful, comfortable and easy to put baby in and out, front and back. I have never been able to do a back carry before I got this. I found it much easier and more comfortable than an Ergo or Kozy.
