has anyone used this?
Homeschool Curriculum
what did you think? Was it worth it, or should I just have them read one of his books?

I have not used it but am very intrigued. I just looked at the sample chapter and liked it... lots of opportunity for some good discussion.
I also like that the program comes with dvds featuring Dave and his teaching team. Dvds work well here. I am definitely keeping this one in my back pocket and would love to hear what others think!

Oh, I'd love to hear more about this. DH and I did FPU last fall and I'm determined to teach my kids personal finance before they are grown.

I have and have used this program. It was wonderful! I highly recommend it. From what I have heard the only main difference from Ramsey say per what the church teaches is based on tithing. But we have instilled that in our children already and have helped them understand what we do.
The program is very complete. The workbook is great and the DVD's have extra things you can do along side the program. But even if all you do is the workbook and DVD's it's well worth it. I gained so much I wish I would have known at that age.
My 3 boys 16, 15 & 13 did this course and all got a lot out of it. Some parts they will re-watch as things come up. It was well worth the money. Our family is thankful for full packages like these ones.

We used the Dave Ramsey program this year with my high school students. It was very entertaining and enjoyable, chock full of wisdom and common sense! I learned a lot myself by watching the videos! I would highly recommend it!

Just ordered it from Homeschool Buyer's Co-op (referral link).
DH and I did Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University last fall and I am excited for my kids to learn solid personal finance while they are still in their teens.

Elena and Monica-
Which sets did you buy? The dvds and student workbooks for high school level? I didn't realize there would be several options....
ETA: how did you all use this... daily? three times a week? Just curious as I begin to think about how I might incorporate it into the next couple of years.
It seems like if I wait to buy things like this they tend to disappear or go out of print or are no longer available in such and such format ... the coop price is pretty good.

I ordered the Foundations in Personal Finance for high schoolers. (My oldest will be in 8th next year, but is ready for a course like this). From what I can tell, there are 12 chapters, which they recommend be done over the course of a semester. I may spread it out depending on how long each session is.
I had heard very good reviews about this program from the people who ran Financial Peace University at a church near us. They did it with the teens in their church a few years ago, but didn't intend to run it again anytime soon.

We used this with my middle daughter and it counts as her economics credit for high school graduation. It was great! I plan to use it again with my son.
A home school Mom I know bought it and we got a group of teens together once a week to watch, discuss, and do the work together. It worked really well in that setting.

I think that Dave Ramsey is great as an introduction to financial responsibility. But I recommend checking out Phil Lenahan who has a Catholic perspective. I really like Dave Ramsey, but there are a few things about him that bother me and that I like to supplement with Catholic teaching - esp. with regards to trusting God with large families, with regards to responsible credit (eg for those who cannot pay every dime of their kids education) and more especially to Catholic views of poverty and materialism (eg Father Dubay's book Happy Are you Poor)
My high school twin boys will be using Phil Lenahan's Generation Next

Thank you for that Phil Lenahan link! I would much rather look into him for the reasons you mentioned.
Happy are you Poor is one of my favorite books, and it is rare that you even find a Catholic that knows, let alone teaches by those principals.

I agree, Marilyn. Thank you for sharing. Applying Dave Ramsey's advice isn't always straight forward as a Catholic with a larger than average family.

I am curious how these two programs compare.
Dave Ramsey is a 6 dvd program that could be used to count as a personal finance math credit for high school.
Generation Next has one dvd that is mainly for the teacher and a workbook for the student. It is listed as a supplemental homeschool material. Does that mean using the program does not give you enough material to count as a full credit?
Dave Ramsey is labeled for high school, while the GN has 17-adult as the age range- which certainly includes older high school student.
Has anyone used Generation Next? If so, did you like it?
