Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am looking for some biographies about sports players. Any sport will do, just looking for players who have held true to the faith and not let there sport of choice, life styles, or friends get in the way of what is really important. We are doing this for part of a PE credit, as we are not sports fans here. This is for a 9th grader to read.

Any thoughts?

Does it have to be a book? You might want to check out the Champions of Faith dvds about Catholic baseball players. championsoffaith.com

My son read the Tim Tebow autobiography - Through My Eyes - and enjoyed it. He is a great role model. He is evangelical and I wondered if there would be anything anti-Catholic in the book so I perused it pretty well and thought it was fine.

I'm betting Kurt Warner's would be good also - All Things Posible: My Story of Faith, Football, and the First Miracle Season

Oh, and my son also read Drew Brees autobio and liked it. Not so much about faith as the other two, but he does include that aspect. He is just an all-around great guy.

Coming Back Stronger: Unleashing the Hidden Power of Adversity

None of these I've recommended, I'm realizing are Catholic specifically. Were you wanting Catholics or any strong Christians?

They also have a book that covers the same players, plus some from other sports - Champions of Faith: Catholic Sports Heroes Tell Their Stories.

And another compilation book like that which my older boys read and we need to get again - Men of Spirit, Men of Sports - many of these athletes featured are Catholic.

No does not have to be books only. I requested the movie mentioned through the library thanks. And it doesn't have to be players of catholic faith, just of a solid ground. You know the kind you don't hear about on the evening news, who are good husbands/wives or are living a solid single life. Only real requirement would be they are sports players. Will be looking up the other books tomorrow.. sleepy time now
