Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I enrolled my dd and I've been having to hunt down all the books which is frustrating to me. Seton always sends it to us in a neat little package. It has been a bit on the expensive side too.

I'm dreading the arguing with my dd about reading Shakespeare and memorizing poetry...not sure if this Classical method will work for us. Ugh.

Can a relaxed, eclectic homeschooler adjust to MODG?

Thanks for listening.

We've been enrolled with MODG from the start. I am just now, after 11 years, considering Seton for my ds's. My dd on the other hand, will stay with MODG through highschool.

I think the shakespeare and poetry memorization will depend on how you approach it. I sort of looked at it all with dread when we first started and that attitude was passed on to my oldest ds. Now, with my next kiddos I try to be enthused - "O look! you get to memorize part of Hamlet! This is really going to be cool!" Yes, it is work, but memorization is such a good thing! Much of what CM encouraged parents to teach their children involved memorization, and Shakespear was also studied.

As far as looking for books, I do know that can be a hassle, but if it helps, most of them are available through Emmanuel Books. Must be a personality thing, but that is actually why I'm still a bit hesitant to go with Seton. I want control over those books. With MODG I bought them all, and if I felt a different option would work better I used that instead. Having the books sent to me in a box is actually a little un-nerving.

I just want to encourage you! MODG is a great program and my kids have all enjoyed it. My young, rambunctious sons have been giving me fits lately so I'm trying something that I think will be more efficient. But there is much beauty in both programs and both are very Catholic so I don't think you can go wrong either way. Once you have those books, depending on the age of your kids, you certainly can relax. The older kids especially spend hours reading great literature and that is certainly a plus.
