Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone used this book by Larry Schweikart and Michael Allen? My husband found it online when we were looking for something for my H.S. daughter to use for American History.

TIA,

Jessica

I got the book out from the library, and from what I've read so far, it is very fair to the Catholic side of history. This book was released in 2011 and goes from Columbus to the War on Terror. It has good reviews from National Review and The Wall Street Journal. The website has teacher resources available such as tests, essay questions, maps and map quizzes all free! There is also a companion book with 55 primary source documents such as The Mayflower Compact and Declaration of Independence. Most importantly for me, it is a good read. My daughter actually took it to bed to read on her own! I think it can definitely serve as an AP level American History course.

So, in case anyone was wondering, I thought I would let you all know my first impressions.

Thanks -- I hadn't heard of this one. I will be looking for new resources for US history for year after next; my oldest daughter used the Christ and the Americas text by Anne Carroll, but neither she nor I liked it much. This sounds like something to investigate for sure. Please keep us updated as you continue to read.

Thanks again!

Sally
