Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My ds is off to his first year at college. He needs a lap top and my husband and I are wondering if he's better off with a laptop or would a notebook be better? Any suggestions?

Mmmm - I would lean toward the laptop for college. My ds takes his everywhere and does everything on it. All homework is done and submitted to professors on it. He takes notes on it. He is almost out of space on it! That said - I don't know much about notebooks.Do they have less storage space - then laptops would be a better option. So I just can address the laptop option. Also, it may depend on what your ds is taking at college.

Also, what does your ds think. I know he hasn't started classes yet. BUt I'd get him also what he thought would be most usefull. I know my ds know more about laptops vs notebooks then I do!

A big enough keyboard that typing is comfortable is a must. My daughter and I both have 15-inch Macbooks, and that size works for both of us. Any bigger is too big to carry around; any smaller, and our hands get cramped from all the typing. That to me is the number one consideration for a computer that's going to get used daily for writing/typing/note-taking.

I'd go look at computers and have him try out the keyboards to see what's going to fit his hands comfortably. I'd also consider the fact that he's going to be looking at the screen a lot, and it's worth having a screen big enough to read without major eye strain. Whatever he gets just has to be comfortable to use heavily, all day every day.
