Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone had their child study topics in midwifery as a highschool science course? Thinking outloud here....

My dd wants to possibly become a midwife and I happen to have some really good books as that was my desire in days long past!

Sounds great! Most midwives have apprentices and/or assistants, and would probably welcome the opportunity to give your daughter a "lab" or "business" component to her studies as well.

One of my best friend's is a midwife and is heading up the midwifery studies here in our city. I should talk to her more- I just wanted to get an idea of what one might cover (as she is more used to bachelor's and masters studies).

CHC's High School of Your Dreams has an outline for a midwifery elective, with readings, essay topics, etc. I wish I had my copy with me, but I lent it out -- as I recall, there were magazines, websites, etc, which all looked interesting as a reading/research component. My daughter was very interested in that elective at one point, but in the end it wasn't one of her great priorities, and we never got to it.

Anyway, don't know if you have HSOYD, but if you do, or can borrow it, you might crack that open and look at what their suggestions are, as a set of reasonable parameters for a high-schooler.

Fun stuff!

Sally
