Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son wants to study Marine Biology and since I am so on the ball I am figuring it out at the last moment!

We had previously used Theresa's great plans when my dd was in 7th and we want to use a bunch of them again. Any ideas for how to make the bookwork a little meatier? The Seaside Naturalist is good but I would like something a little more in depth. We have the Marine Bio Colouring Book and that will help.

He actually wants to do the Apologia course as he says he learns well that way- unfortunately money is tight, and anyhow, I know this will be more interesting!

Ideas?

What are your local marine resources, Kristie? What's local? This is the kind of thing that calling up a local conservation group and asking to volunteer would probably yield so much fantastic fruit in terms of understanding marine life and the interconnectedness between marine life and our local area's forestry/fauna/flora health.

Hmmmm....none! We used to live on an Island off the coast of BC but now we are completely landlocked prairie dwellers!

Kristie I am doing the exact same thing with my dd 11th grade!

Theresa's plans are my backbone. I went to Currclick and looked up marine biology. Sorry I can't do a link right now!

First they are having an online high school course. We aren't able to do it, but it looks good. They also have a bunch of various units and note booking pages and the like. I purchased some cheap ones which wil give us a little direction.

My dd loves sharks too. So we plan to take a month to do a lot with them. We don't get Discovery, but I purchased a shark week DVD! And we will be raiding the library quite frequently!

I also had WAY fun at the local used book store buying a bunch of different books about oceans, shells, fish, etc in the adult nonfiction section. The closest water to us is the Chesapeake bay and there were several books about the bay and marshes and so forth. Those will be our supplements.

You might want to ask around...I've been known to lend out textbooks now and again, so maybe someone you know would do that, too.
