Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm comparing high school options right now and was wondering if anybody has used Our Lady of the Rosary School for high school. Any comments on user friendliness, cost, quality, etc. would be appreciated.

My homeschooling journey began with high school, so I did a lot of research on the different catholic programs. There was not much discussion about OLRS, but I liked their curriculum offerings. It seemed fairly similar to the standard high school plan. I did not use it for that particular child, but I did enroll my next child in their 10thgr English course 2yrs ago. I really wanted a structured course and wanted to get a feel for their school. I think it was $165 which is similar to what Seton charges for a single course. They use copies of textbooks which I knew, but I thought they did a nice job of binding them in book form. The lesson plans were very simple and basically a breakdown of the text. She had to write a book report every quarter in a format they required. It was not too difficult. The support is minimal due to their being such a small school. I think the lady said they had like 300 families enrolled then. They were very nice though. I had a nice chat with the high school grader. They were timely in returning our quarter work. All in all, it was a good experience. My daughter liked having the structure and grading since she had been in a catholic school.

I would say that it seemed to be fairly similar to Seton but not as much work or as difficult. Also, similar in cost, but Seton offers so much more now online. My 4thgr ds has been fully enrolled in Seton since 3rd gr. I plan on continuing full enrollment with Seton, but feel that OLRS would be a good alternative if Seton doesn't work out for him.

If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help.

HTH,
Adele

Am I understanding correctly that they make copies of textbooks? Isn't that a violation of copyright?

Thank you so much, Adele. What kind of textbooks did they use? Did you like the books? Would you be able to compare them to the books used by OLVS?

Eva,

I think OLVS uses the same grammar textbooks for high school. I haven't looked at their curriculum in awhile though. I like the literature of OLRS much better. OLRS uses older anthologies that are OOP Catholic school texts. My daughter and I really liked the textbook she used with OLRS. It had some wonderful stories in it.

HTH,
Adele
