Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ds will be 7th grade in fall and we may send him to high school. The "may" part is hard. If he goes I would like him to be prepared. What should I teach or work on the next 2 years? As an aside, I would also like to have some fun, still. Especially in case he doesn't go

Anne, I'd suggest focusing on the basics (religion, of course, and math and English), nurturing a love of reading and introducing him to science experiments (the writeup as well as the process). If he's never studied a foreign language before, it might help him to do so now, at least a day or two per week, so he can get used to the idea of pronunciation, grammar, vocab, etc.

Math

Read great literature.

Write five paragraph essays, to include grammar, spelling, using writing tools - legible handwriting and word processing.

Public speaking, to include formal presentations as well as informal skills such as how to ask and answer questions when needed.

Study skills, to include how to listen to lectures and take standardized tests.

Love,

I agree with putting Math near the top of the list. All of the big tests he will take over the next couple of years (PSAT, PLAN, ACT, SAT) are going to require a lot of math, so I'd really work on that.
