Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Barb

I was going to post in your other thread but thought these links fit here better

Currently, my dd16 (Grade 11) is using Homeschool Connections Online Recorded Courses, she is presently listening to "Tolkien and Fairy Tales". There are lots of other choices too. There is also the option to take these classes live.

After these courses I'm planning on using some of these links shared here, Free Literature Study Guides. And going back and combing previous discussions

OH MY! Erin, I never have looked at Homeschool connections. They look great! I will have to dig deeper and look around. A couple of books I want ds to read have recorded classes. So, about how long per day to listen (not included the reading) has been for your daughter? Also, when we subscribe - we can access any recorded class they have listed? We will definitely try some!

Erin, what is the Tolkein and Fairy Tales class like? My ds just finished reading Lord of the Rings and Tolkein's translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. (I don't want to hijack this thread, so pm or email me if you'd rather! )

On topic... I'm looking at a study guide for medieval literature called Questions for the Thinker: Old World Europe. My ds is reading The Song of Roland right now, and I think this might be helpful -- as well as with reading in the future. But it is a little pricey.

We've used the free Sparknotes online guides before. They are very good, I think. I really love their "No Fear Shakespeare" guides.

Theresa - I am going to look into Sparknotes - I love free! I get tired of ordering something for money and being dissapointed with what I got.

Dd said classes are about 80min. When you subscribe for the recorded classes this is for all the recorded classes. Have you seen this thread?   Lots more info about HS Connections.

Angela,
Dd admits that recorded classes probably lose some of the impact that a live class would. Although we can't really compare. The course has introduced ideas dd wouldn't have thought about, and she finds thought provoking. But she doesn't find the presentation lively but then it is more designed for group discussion in a live class.
