Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

In the thread on Current Events, Stef mentioned her daughter's Google Reader. It got me thinking, do your teens read blogs? do you suggest some blogs for them to read? do you use blogs for any educational purpose and more importantly, what blogs are in (or is it on?) your teens' Google Reader(or bloglines?)?

ahaha. she just sent me her entire list -- there's a great many blogs there that are by 4real moms. she's learning from the best :)... (i'll e-mail you/PM the entire list)

so yeah, moms, my kids are paying attention to you!!

though she doesn't get to read her reader often now, college schedule and everything.

when she was still in high school, i would send her specific blog posts for education, inspiration, etc.   she added the rest on her own. she also follows many of the same blogs i do. made for some very interesting discussions.... that i miss very much.

I prefer my daughter not to read blogs or have google reader - except for a very small number of young friends - all of whose mothers I know either IRL or online. (But my teen is very young - only just 13 - whereas Stef's daughter is much older)

fwiw - I refuse to use google reader (though I have it set up for a handful of friends' blogs)or read a lot of blogs either. I really only read blogs of friends - and it is to keep in touch with them.

I'm just impressed you have time to read google reader! I barely have time to do anythign on my blog and I haven't had time to read the blogs in what seems like forever. If it wasn't for my iPhone, I'd never even get to run through 4RL!

My son checks his email in the morning. His home page is MyCatholic.com so he gets the readings, the saints, and so forth, and the links sections is set up to take him directly to sites I've approved of regular use of. Below that is news sections that I've narrowed down to Vatican news is on there. NPR. Catholic News.

We are just now letting him have more access to the laptop mostly for academics. We don't allow any surfing yet. It helps that we only have 2 computers for 6 people to use.

Gabi doesn't either. I just was thinking about the Current Event thing and thought this might be a good way of sharing specific events and opinions with her. I am not sure that I will do it. It might be starting a trend that I don't particularly care about. We will see...

Oh! I absolutely love my Google Reader! And Martha, I don't get to spend a whole lot of time on it but every now and then I do, and it is nice to have them there all waiting for me nice and tidy Remember I only have three kids (and no babies or toddlers), so I am sure that I am nt as busy as you are

just to add that dd didn't use google reader until she was 16 or so. i was afraid she'd run into things i wasn't willing or prepared to discuss before that, or that might be dangerous for her. my 13-yo does not use google reader and i don't plan on him using it for a while still.

that said, i wouldn't mind my teen reading sites likes macbeth's or kris (athomescience) or jenn's. this will need evaluation just like any website you would allow your kids to read. i definitely would not let my younger ones go on a news site by themselves, for the same reason we don't watch the news or subscribe to newspapers.
