I'm very excited about some information I have discovered. After Bridget's post I became very interested in Homeschool Connections and I had already been looking at Memoria Press Online.

Researching a little further it dawned on me that online classes wouldn't work as they were held when it was 2AM here in Australia. I emailed both providers and received some great news I thought to share as not only is it an option for those of us not in the States but a cheaper option which may suit Americans too.

I told them I would spread the word.

First correspondence,
Homeschool Connections:
Option A: You can register for the live course and attempt to attend the live session (with sleep in your eye) or you can register for the live course and watch the recordings of the classes. Either choice will allow you to receive feedback from the instructor since you will able to also communicate with him between the weekly sessions. The cost is $75 until 12/31 and will increase to $90 thereafter.   Option B: You can register for our subscription service which allows you complete access to Mr. Campbell's course and content once the live sessions are complete as well as unlimited access to our 13 other courses, 100+ hours of recordings, and 50+ documents, links, etc. You can see a list of all of these classes by clicking here.   The courses with "Recorded Course" next to them are the ones you can access unlimited number of times. The other courses will soon be archived once they are complete and then they will be available for our current subscribers. This subscription service is $30/month. The first 7 days is a trial membership and it only costs $1. You can cancel at any time.

We are just starting the subscription service this year. We certainly recognize the budgets virtually all homeschool families have to maintain hence the reason we are starting it.     To answer your questions, yes you will have unlimited access to all recorded classes. This also includes the content. As far as feedback is concerned we are continuing to improve each recorded class experience. Some of the classes do have feedback in the form of an answer key provided by the instructor. Some of the classes do not currently provide feedback but these classes are not "dead." That is to say that we continue to add content in the form of real time quizzes (with feedback) and other material to help the students and the parents teach the students or at the very least hold the student accountable. In effect, we do not want or expect the student or the parent to feel unsupported. Bottom line--we are working with each instructor to provide the guidance each student needs as they participate in the recorded classes.     One thing I should be very clear on, the student will not have the opportunity (in option B) to have an active dialogue with the instructor. This is only available during the live classes (i.e. Option A).

From Memoria Online:

We do offer Independent Study Classes, which can be begun at any time during the year, so that may be a possibility for your children if you would really like to start Latin with them after Christmas. The only drawback is that these classes do not have a live teacher teaching the class.           There are a couple of other families in Australia who takes our online courses. The differences in the school year times do pose a problem. Because of this, we are thinking of offering new "Independent Study Plus" classes, which would be almost exactly like a real class. We would post all of the class recordings from a course, so that students would be able to view the class instruction. So really, it would have everything our full courses have, except for a live class. We have not set many of these class up yet, but if you were interested in a particular class, we could make sure the class would be ready for your students after Christmas.    For this new format, we will begin only with our Latin, Logic, and Classical Studies classes, since our Composition classes are still in a developmental stage.

I'm pretty excited.
