Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

ANYONE know ANYTHING about this Catholic college? The Neumann Guide doesn't mention them, so I am a little worried. But I like them, in theory. And they have metalworking, which my son LOVES. They have a number of majors many other Catholic schools don't offer.

I'm a FUS grad, so thats my first choice. But this University of St. Francis is intriguing.

Thanks!
Macmom

I have not heard of it, and I went to graduate school in Muncie, IN - though there are so many small liberal arts schools in that part of the country it would be hard to know them all. Having not heard of it in the Catholic circles I would tend to think it's a pretty typcial "Catholic" college. One way to get a sense of what you might expect is look in the catalogue at the course titles and descriptions offered in the theology department (which might be called the religious studies department, which would tell you quite bit right there.) Also check the campus ministry section to see what is being offered on campus - does it seem specifically Catholic with lots of opportunity for the sacraments? Is a large part of the campus ministry offers interfaith or eccumenical? What kind of speakers do they bring to campus sponsored by Campus Ministry? Look at their list of campus organizations. Who is included? Who isn't that you would expect on a truly Catholic campus?

Even if they aren't in the Neumann Guide, the Neumann Society is a good resource to contact and see what information they have about them (could give you a sense of specifics about why they aren't included).

They have a chapter of the Dead Theologians Society. The nuns wear habits. Mandatum. What else could I be looking for? :-)

Thanks for the help, Mary! :-)

Peace,
Macmom

I'm from Fort Wayne. St. Francis has a GREAT theolgoy dept. 3 of the theology professors are Catholic homeschoolers and are all very grounded and Orthodox (I LOVE listening to them chat at a homeschool function!)

Other than THAT...the college isn't very Catholic. We're getting a new Bishop and hopefully he can help. I'd be cautious about sending my highschooler there for classes before I checked out each class individually. I don't know what percentage of the faculty is Catholic, but I think it's a fairly small amount.

I'm not associated with the college at all, so all I can tell you is what I've heard around town (and around the homeschool highschool group). If I can help you any more, let me know jenn at thmg dot com
