Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK so we are watching TTC dvd How to be a Superstar Student. We have talked about this before - he knows how to annotate/take notes on his text books. He started the 1st week well - deciding to outline the chapters . . . that didn't last past the first week. What are some ideas on motivating him to do this. I read that 15 minutes after you read, you will not remember 40-50% of what you read without annotating the text and/or taking notes on it! Ds knows all this, knows how, knows I want him to. Do I:
1. Treat this as an assigment and give a weekly grade
2. give extra credit on the chapter tests for good notes. . . taken on it
3. or whatever ideas you great ladies have?!

One problem is - he gets decent grades without doing this (high 80's/low 90's). But this needs to be a habit now, before he goes to college in 2 years. Also, think of his grades if he did this.

Sorry, for the long post and thanks for any advice you have!

Barb

The same dd who is doing the Superstar DVDs is also taking English 101 at community college. The fear factor is a great motivator to listen to the series and take it seriously. Otherwise, no great advice; my children are also of the sort who get B+/A- without too much of a stretch. This means that anything that doesn't seem fascinating (like basic grammar or study skills coaching) gets kind of the slide through.

Peace,
Nancy

I'd make it part of his grade for at least one semester. That way there is some impetus to actually do it.
