Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi all,
In reading through some older posts I've seen several folks (Books, Elizabeth, Janet, Caroline and others) talk about this course. I loved Caroline's post from back in the spring with the 3 points regarding how she used books with her high schoolers. I want to implement some more literary analysis other than narration, but I feel terribly weak in that area.

How intense is the teacher prep? I'll have a 10th, 9th, 6th, 2nd and Kdgtnr with a toddler and one on the way in January.

And do you need both the course plans and the study guide set? I'm thinking you do....

Thanks in advance for your thoughts here....
God bless,
Angela

I just started it and so far there is zero teacher prep. It's really VERY basic. Each week they read a section and are given a writting topic. At the end they have an exam, with an essay porttion. There's the option of book reports.

I will say that after doing Seton reading/english for many years, Kolbe is .. well I wouldn't say it's too easy, but I would not call it anywhere near the in depth book analysis that Seton requires 4 times a year.

BUT, the Kolbe assignments are weekly, not quarterly so that's what I expected. I don't want to seem unhappy with the lit guides, because so far, I'm okay with them and I don't think I will be unhappy with them.

Just saying that if you are specificly looking for indepth lit analysis, I don't think this compares to the rigor of Seton. They rarely require more than a 3 paragraph essay and usually 1 paragraph is considered statisfactory. A big adjustment for me after my kids always modeling a 5 paragraph essay since 4th grade and expected to write it mostly on their own by 8th grade.

Also, if you want some assistance with writing structure - it very minimal. A brief what to expect and a sample. That's it. Which is fine for me, but might not be near enough for structural guidance for another.

Over all, I think the guides will serve MY purpose, which was to offer my voracious reader the reading he loves with just a bit of the structure I think he needs.

Ask Kolbe about the course plans and study guides - talk to Nancy. I know I have course plans that have everything in it. The study guides are designed for folks who want just a little bit of stuff and don't want to sign up and pay the whole shebang. I don't know if they have remodeled the lesson plans so that you will need both or not, which is why I'd say to talk to Nancy in ordering.

No You don't get a seperate course anymore. Just the guide. I fully registered for the literature course and the lit guides are all that came with it.

I noticed on their website the course plans are $100 and the study guide set is $20. All you have is the guide Martha? I'm a little nervous to call and ask these questions without knowing for sure I'll order...
God bless,
Angela

The two items being sold seperatly are the same as the previous lit plans, they've just divided up the student and teacher materials. I have both.
