Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone every used the high school religion books from Lepanto Press (Our Lady of Victory homeschool)?

I'm wondering how they compare to the Fr. Laux books.

Thank you!

Brenda,

We used them this year for 10th. They are very good books, but very meaty compared to the Laux books.   They are also quite detailed and philosophical in their presentation of the material. A lot will depend on your child. If you have a "just the facts, please" kind of student, the Laux books would probably be a better fit. If your student likes to learn the material as well as explore related topics in greater depth, then the OLVS books would be better.

Does this help?

Thanks Tea,

That is very helpful! Would you say they are "dated" since they were published quite a long time ago?

Since I hadn't heard about them from anyone, I decided to get the Didache Series "Understanding the Scriptures" by Scott Hahn. It was expensive but it seems more simple to me than the Kolbe plans of using Laux & the Catechism.

Brenda,

No, I wouldn't day they are dated at all. In fact I believe their copyright is roughly the same time frame as the Laux books. They are actually very beautiful, insightful books, very meaty, but manageable for a high schooler who enjoys a more in-depth, philosophical presentation. They sparked many good discussions between my ds and I. I have never seen the Didache books, so I cannot compare them to that series.
